Intro
I am a 51 year old female who has had Diabetes since I was 10 years
old. I’ve kept myself under pretty good controlthrough insulin, Diet
and exercise. I have also had extensive laser treatment for
Diabetes retinopathy, have had cataract replacement in both eyes and
last May, I had a heart attack which resulted in my being medivacced
out of the community where I live to a majjor centre for an angiogram
and angioplasty. I would love to be in contact with other Diabetics
aroud the same age who have been diagnosed for about the same length
of time and who have had similar problems (or have been lucky to
have had none!). Elizabeth

Welcome, Elizabeth! I hope some of our members who are in your boat
will respond to you. In the mean time, there are many different ages
and diagnosis times here, and we will value any input you may have!
Sorry to hear all the troubles you’ve had. I had actually wondered if
there was any treatment for retinopathy. Is it kind of like lasic? I
haven’t researched alot of the long term effects very in depth yet.
Anyway, welcome to the group!

Hi, Elizabeth! I have an online friend who is in a similar situation
to yours. If it is ok with you, I will send her your email address
in case the two of you might want to connect up by email. Please let
me know, either by list or privately. Thanks! Suzanne

Hi, My name is Benita. My son, Bryan, 6, was just diagnosed a month ago (Type 1) It’s been a hectic month! I feel like my baby is only 6 yrs old, why did he have to get it?? But I’ve accepted it and am learning to live with it very well, and so is he! he’s great about needles and being tested, everything. We’re so proud of him!! My 9 yr old dd is jealous tho. I also have a 12 yr old dd. We also homeschool, that makes it easier with diabetes I think too.
I just finished reading 3 books and I was wondering what books people highly recommend, I just want to learn everything I can about it right now. I wanted my son to be put on Lantus and they told me not now, that I’d have to learn more about it right for a few more months!! I thought what else is there to learn??? But I still have questions and I still feel like there might be more so I guess maybe I need a few more months.
We live near Albany NY so there’s a good endo team here and a support group. They also have a diabetes camp that my son can go to at some point.
Well, thanks to the moderator for having a group like this!!! I think it’s great!!!!

Thanks, Drake, that’s what I”m worried about.

Just remember, keeping those blood sugar levels in the recommended range is the best way to prevent diabetes related problems later on in life.

Hi,
My name is Ashley and I have had type 1 since I was 8. I am now 26.
I had a hard past with anorexia which put a huge dent in my control
for 5 years or so. I have dealt with the eating disorder and am now
trying to tie my life back together. Unfortunately, my bad control
has resulted in retinopathy and am spilling protein in my urine. I
am on cozaar to keep this under control.
Yhe pump has really been a huge lifesaver for me (I realize it is not
for everyone). I just want to talk to others who can relate to my
concerns, fears, tips, etc. I hope this group will be a good source
of comfort for me.
