Hello

Hi everyone! I joined this group a few weeks ago but I have been
reading what you all have said and that is why I havent told about
myself. I am 18 years old and getting ready to graduate from high
school. I was dx with type 1 diabetes when I was just 4 so I have had
it for 14 years. I didnt get it because someone else in my family had
it cause actually no one in my family has it. I got it because I got
an infection in my pancreas after recovering from a cold. I am
getting ready to go to college and although i have been dealing with
D for a while i still have lots of questions. Well I hope to get to
know you all.

Welcome Victoria- ( LOVE that name!) I can’t imagine having to deal
with this through your teen years- has it been alright? Congrats on
graduating! Any plans for college? Please feel free to post any
questions you may have- I think we all still think of questions
sometimes, and this group is really good about giving any info we
    have! Welcome again! :-D Melissa

Hello everyone, my daughter is 13 and has type 1 diabetes. She takes
lantice and R. Is anyone on Lantice? Do you find it hard to take
    insuline everytime you eat?

everyone! I’m Monica, and I’m new to the group. I’m 18, and I
was diagnosed with Type 1 on March 8, 2001. I had all the symptoms,
but I could explain all of them. I went in for a sports physical to
play on the golf team @ my high school and I ended up failing because
I had ketones in my urine. My sugar was at 353. It was a hard blow,
even though Diabetes is rampant in my family. I have a cousin who is
30, and when he was diagnosed, his sugar was in the 800s. We also
have heart disease. Great blood lines!! Many of my cousins, my
mother, my aunts and uncles, great aunts & uncles, are now finding
out that they’re diabetic. Sorry, I didn’t mean to tell you my whole
life story, but I feel that I’ll be understood. I look forward to
    the chats!

she is 11 years old. Her blood sugar was 600 last week when I took
her to the hospital I had no idea that was what she had.
Her name is Jessica and so if anyone wants to pass on some helpful
hints I would really appreciate it.
We just got to come home from the hospital today and so I am
extremely exahausted. She is doing better than I am, she gives
herself her own shots and checks her sugar level all by herself.

very stressful for both of us. Sandy

Hi everyone I just joined this group. I have had type 1 diabetes
for 22 years, I thought I would join this group for new
information. I have been pumping for a year and love it. Blood
sugars are still up and down I need to follow a diet like I had to
do 22 years ago, I bet that would make a world of a difference. Talk
    to you all later. Goodnight.

Hi, I developed type on in may of 04 when I went to the hospital with
what I thought was the flu, only to wake up from DKA and coma for
days later and leave the hospital a few weeks later. I am also a
college student and wife and mother. I REALLY look foward to speaking
with others that have the same type, I have talked on other lists and
occarsionally get exasperated with the misconceptions and all of type
one. Ilook foward to talking to you all

Hi I’m a new member and would like to introduce myself. My name is
Julie and my son Michael has type 1 diabetes. Michael has had this
disease since he was three years old and he is now ten. Michael
started using the pump last July and we love it. He especially likes
not getting all those shots everyday. At ten years old, Michael has
taken a very active part in caring for himself. He changes out his
site on his own and is very aware of his body when he isn’t feeling
right. He knows exactly what he needs to do to make things right
again. My husband and I are so proud of him.

  17. Arlen Roberts Says:

    Welcome, Julie and Michael!

It is wonderful to see younger diabetics assuming their own care. The sooner a diabetic knows their own body, the better the control may be, I think.

    Best wishes,

Joan (challenged with diabetes for 36 years)
