Hi. :)
Hi. I’m a lurker of a few weeks and a first time writer. I’m Beckie in
Texas, almost 46 and was diagnosed with type 1 just three years ago. I had
sudden onset
of symptoms following a physical trauma. My husband laughs, but I swear! That
little canoe accident marked the beginning of my symptoms. Eat, drink, pee,
drink
more, loseweight. I lost 12 pounds in one month, and I was already thin. I
had an
endocrynologist for thyroid problems, so finding a good doctor wasn’t a
problem. I love my endo guy! We tried pills and diet for a bit, but that
didn’t
work so I started insulin therepy. I started with humalin N and humalog, but
have switched
to Lantis with humalog. I love Lantis! It gives me the freedom to eat when I
want
to. Before, I always felt like I was feeding the insulin and I hated it. I
don’t
resent eating thesedays. Sorry if I sound like a Lantis commercial. I’m just
excited about it.
The most current thread is about alcohol. I drink beer. Sometimes. I
especailly like a beer, on the porch, in the Summer. I usually
just have one. My days of excess are long gone. But when I do drink
that one beer, Imake sure I eat too! I’ve had a beer related low and it wasn’t
pleasant.
Sitting there in the sun with that one beer buzz, buzz, BUZZ! Then I realized
something was wrong.
I hate lows.
I just got blood work back and my last test showed me at 8.1. Not great,
but it was my best yet!
That’s all. Just wanted to introduce myself. Beckie

Welcome to the group, Beckie! Glad you decided to post! Wow- type 1
Melissa
at 43 huh? I know the age ranges are just a guide line, I had
wondered how often they were wrong! ( I was diagnosed with bell’s
palsy at 7 which you should not get till your 60’s, and then MS at 16
which the lower age for is 20-30) LOL, so I know they never rule you
out for something just because of age. Glad to hear you like lantus.
Please post again.
