		<description>HI!

MY NAME IS SYDNEY AND I AM 7 YEARS OLD. I HAVE DIABETES TOO. I WANTED YOU TO KNOW THAT YOU ARE NOT ALONE AND IF YOU NEED TO ASK ME ANYTHING I AM HERE FOR YOU. THE BEGINING IS THE HARDEST BUT IT GETS EASIER AND EASIER EVERY DAY. I AM GETTING A PUMP SOON AND WHEN YOU HAVE HAD DIABETES ABOUT A YEAR YOU SHOULD THINK ABOUT GETTING ONE TOO. IT MAKES BIRTHDAY PARTIES AND SLEEPOVERS NO BIG DEAL!

<description>My 5 yr old son was diagnosed a little over a month ago with
diabetes. I think it is one of the biggest shocks to my life and his
both. I feel so bad for him sometimes, hes way stronger then me that
is for sure. He gets really upset sometimes because he feels like he
is the only diabetic kid out there. I explain there is others but
there isnt too many here. We live in a fairly small town. If anyone
has a child around his age that could help them type an email to my
son to let him know hes not alone would be great. Its a joy to know
there is a place to go that knows how it feels to deal with all of
the carb counting and emotions that come with this disease. Thanks</description>

		<description>John,

Welcome aboard! Sounds like you are doing well! That is fantastic! I hope you find us to be a good resource and sounding board.

Good morning. I am new to the group but old to diabetes. Been type
1 for 42 years. I was 9 when I first learned to poke myself and
weigh everything that went into my mouth. Have been on the pump
(Minimed 712) for the past 5 1/2 years. Love it and you couldn't
pry it off my body. A1c's went from 7+% to 5.1% 6 months ago. Not
always that good though. Constant routine does it for me.

		<description>Rhonda
Welcome! How old is your daughter, and what's her name? I went thru
middle school, high school and college with type 1, so wherever she is
(excepting elementary school--I was diagnosed at age 12), I've also been
there! It's rough, but us childhood-onsets who managed to adjust the best
have turned out stronger than you could perhaps imagine. Now in my 40th
year with diabetes, it's been an odyssey I can tell you about from start to...
well, not finish--I ain't finished yet!--but from start 'till now, at least!
You've
found a good buncha ppl here--some more newly diagnosed and seeking
support and answers, some, like me, old vets, survivors with a trick or 2 up our
sleeves.
Stay in the Light,
Michael

		<description>Hello.
My name is Sarah, and my 13-year-old daughter was diagnosed with
Type I diabetes 4 weeks ago tomorrow. She is on humalog before
meals and Lantus at night. She really seems to be 'honeymooning'
right now...down to 2U with breakfast, 4U with lunch, 3U with
dinner, and 9U Lantus at night.
I was wondering what kind of carbohydrate intake any of you might
share with me. Anne was started on 6 carbs with each meal, 1
afternoon snack and 1 evening snack. It really seemed to be too
much for her in that almost her *entire* intake was carbohydrate.
She's down to 5 carbs each meal and two 1C snacks each day. What
are some of your diets like? Anne had lost ~7 pounds before
diagnosis, and has gained about 10 after starting insulin (she is
not overweight, but she's not thin, either, and the extra weight is
disturbing to her). We meet tomorrow for our first follow-up at the
 &lt;!--more--&gt;
 diabetic clinic.
I thought I'd put in my 2-cents worth about autoimmune disease,
also. Anne has OCD, which is believed to be auto-immune mediated in
some cases following strep(documented) or viral(theorized)
infections. Anne's endocrinologist told us that if you have one
auto-immune disease, you are more prone to another....great :~\
Looking forward to learning lots. I'm glad I found this group-
