Busy Weekend!
Wow! I go to work for the weekend, and come in today and see sooo
many posts! LOL. Just for those of you who are wondering, I am the
owner of this group. Welcome to all the new people, we are very happy
you decided to join us! To everyone, please try to be civil to one
another. To the people who had posted about someone’s blood sugar
being high who has not been diagnosed- when my son was first
diagnosed, he always made me check my bs before he would do his.
While he was still in the hospital after diagnosis, I went from 62 to
189 in an hour. I have discussed this with many doctors, and what
they tell me is that ANYONE can be out of whack with thier blood
sugars, espescially when stressed. But, with my son being diagnosed
(no family history) I get my hba1c’s checked every year. Think I had
something else to say, but it’s slipped my mind for the moment LOL.
Don’t let this disease get you down, and keep hoping for new
breakthroughs.

And that’s what the doctors should do, too, Melissa. But what they
will do is a quick finger stick test, and if the blood sugar comes
out normal, they say there’s no problem. They call that “screening
for diabetes.”
I’ve been a type 1 diabetic for 28 years, but my father was recently
diagnose as borderline type 2. He had gotten a physical a month
before the diagnosis, and they had told him he had been screened for
diabetes. His eye doctor found retinal damage a few weeks later.

Unfortunately, I know all about the finger stick as thier ‘test’ for
Melissa
diabetes. I have MS, and it is very common for us to have
hypoglycemia symptoms. I went for many years telling my doc to check
me for diabetes, and they just did they finger stick. But now that I
know better, I insist on an hba1c. Seems to help convince them when
you sound like you know what you’re talking about LOL. Sorry to hear
about your dad.
