New To The Group

Hey Everyone,
I’m new to the group and just wanted to introduce myself.

My name is Michelle and I’ve had diabetes for 22 years.

I’m 28 years old and live in the Boston area. Lucky for me, this allows me access to Joslin Diabetes Center. <;-)

I just started using Lantus and I love love love it! My morning sugars used to be into the high 300 and sometimes even 400’s and since starting the lantus, i’m in the 150 - 200’s most mornings. (I know, not perfect, but much much better).

I’ve recently started carb counting and am well on my way to getting an insulin pump. I’m both nervous and excited about this, if there are any members who are pump users I’d love some feedback!

Michelle

Hello all, I have been reading your post for a few weeks now, I am
glad I have ran across it. My child, Kyle, is 11, he was diagnosed
2 years ago (10/4/02). I sill cry at times thinking about why has
this happened to this innocent child. He is handling things much
better than I am. I am a RN, I see all the complications that go
along with diabetes, ofcourse what I see is never pretty. We go in
the morning for him to get his pump. He is scared, but he has been
asking for it since going to Camp Seale Harris/AL back when he was
first diagnosed and seen most of the kids there (95%) had pumps.
Just curious do the rest of you Moms with diabetic children have
    periods of sadness?
I wanted to comment too, rarely do we let Kyle stay with anyone, but
recently my Mother watched him for about 4-5 hours. I was
explaining to her if he eats 40 grams of carbs, he will need 1 unit
of Insulin, so I get ready to leave and she says, “OK, if he eats 40

grams of cholesterol, I need to give him 1 unit.” hummmm
