Sarah’s appt. with new Endo.

Hi all,
Well, Sarah’s appointment with the new endo went well yesterday. We are hoping, if all goes well, to have her pumping within the next few months. Sarah has a lot of proving of herself to do in the next few weeks — keeping very accurate record keeping, testing, counting carbs, etc. You all know the drill. This has been something that she’s not really been good at, so she knows that if she wants a pump, she has to prove that she is ready for the responsibility of a pump. She loved the new doc, right up to the point that Dr. Rathe sent us rushing to the surgeon downstairs — lol
Sarah has been complaining of pain below her tailbone for about a week and a half now. I coaxed her about a week ago to let me take a peek, but didn’t see anything remarkable. She has continued to complain about it though, and looked very uncomfortable. I thought perhaps she had a hemorrhoid or something. Well, yesterday before we were ready to leave the new doc, I said “Sarah would you please let Dr. Rathe take a quick peek at your bottom before we go?” Well, I got the death glare, of course. Explained it to the doc and she persuaded Sarah to let her take a peek if I left the room, which I did. So, I’m standing in the hallway and hear Dr. Rathe’s voice start to raise, and she gets this anxious sound, and says “Yes Sarah, this is serious, this could be life threatening,” and comes racing out the door and down the hall telling me she’s calling a surgeon. I about fainted right there in the hall — lol. Well, she was very concerned that this thing Sarah had below her
tailbone, right above where your buttocks start was now about the size of a hard boiled egg (the kid never, and I repeat never led me to believe it was THAT bad — arggh)! was perhaps a rectal abscess, which can turn septic, etc. So she immediately called the surgeon and sent us downstairs — quite prepared to end up in the hospital. Oh yeah, she got the play pump out and showed it to us AFTER all this surgeon talk — like who even digested a word she said after that???
So, off to the surgeon we go. Surgeon says he’s going to look at it, and see if he can “lance” it right there. Ok, so Sarah thinks “lancet” I can handle that. Well, he cuts about a 1 1/2 inch hold in her bum, squeezes what sarah says was a “gallon” of pus out of it, then packs it with gauze. This was not, she says, like “lancing” her finger — lol. Turns out it was something called a peri pylonidal cyst. She is in a tremendous amount of pain today, loving every minute of the painkiller Oxycodone. She’s stating that she is going to need “years and years of therapy” after going to a new endo to discuss the pump, and ending up at a surgeon’s office getting her “ass shredded.” That’s my Sarah, never a dull moment. But she’s doing well, and hopefully this thing will heal, and not reoccur.
Oh yeah, we also had tickets to Tim McGraw last night, and she simply was not going to miss this concert. She went, of course, all looped out on Oxycodone and miserable with pain, but she went, and had as good of a time as she could I suppose. I know Mom had a good time — that man is hot, hot, hot!
Well, that’s the update on Miss Sarah. Keep your fingers (and toes) crossed that we will be pumping soon!
All the best,
Kelly

Thank you for this useless and disgusting email.
God… you are so boorish and rude! Kelly was sharing a piece of her life
that she didn’t have to. She knew the more compassionate and caring people
on this group would care about what is happening with her daughter and
keeping us up to date. Join another group!

too late…! you should never have said something like that in the first place. People that say stuff like that without even thinking about it obviously have problems. This group is for people with diabetes, and we are here to listen, support, and help each other. How would you feel if someone had responded to your situation with something like what you said. When my kids are “appologizing” I tell them ok your sorry, what are you sorry for, and to directly say sorry to the person they hurt!

    Hi all,
Well, I evidently missed the first email, telling me that the email was rude and a waste of time. Thanks for the support though you guys, I appreciate it. As a matter of fact, clicking on this group when I was going through my address book was a mistake — I meant to send it to the mailing list of parents of children with diabetes. The fact that it made it to this list at all was a total fluke. I’m sorry if my post bored you or offended you Anthony. But with this child, we have stared death in the face many times over the last year — and to Sarah, this was a very significant and frightening experience. So, kiss my ass buddy.
    All the best,
    Kelly
