Am I in the right group?

The man I am married to has been diabetic since he was 11. He is now
46. We are having a tough time with his diabetes (as well as
secondary conditions). I am looking for a support group for those of
us who help take care of Diabetics.
Have I found such a place? I feel like I really need to be in
contact with other people who deal with the Diabetic on a daily
basis - even though I personally don’t have the disease.
Any reply would be appreciated. thanks.

    Loreta,
I am assuming that since your husband has had diabetes since he was 11 that he is type 1 insulin dependant. Is that correct. My daughter is 6 years old, she will be 7 in november. She was diagnosed right before her 5th birthday. She had 1500 blood sugar and is taking 2-3 shots of insulins per day and checks her blood sugar often. I have restricted her diet which has helped her gain control. I still let her indulge on occasion, thanks to humalog which is a fast acting insulin that works in about 15 minutes. So if she wants a treat, like cake at a party or something I dont say no I just make sure and give her enough insulin to cover it. She asks me every day if she is going to be diabetic forever. I say probably and she cries. I have learned to say maybe, but hopefully they are gonna find a cure soon, so one day you will take a shot or a pill that will make you all better. She is doing well, and I have learned so much just through taking care of her. I met with her nurse today
who brought an intern with her to show how home visits work, and I was amazed at how well I was able to describe so many different things about my daughters condition with ease. Find out if there are workshops about diabetes in your area from the local diabetes clinic. And I do think that they have diabetes camps for adults, the same as they do for children if your interested. Good luck and keep in touch. If you ever need a suggestion or have a question feel free to email me and I will help in anyway I can.
Take care and hope all is well ;) Angela
