This is actually one way diabetes has been good for us (every cloud....LOL). One time, my son's BG's were really high for a couple of days, his peak flows (an asthma test) were ok. His temp was fine. He said he felt fine. Then the ketones started, so I took him in to the doc. He had an ear infection AND strep! We would never have caught it before it got really serious if it weren't for the diabetes. We have a standard sliding insulin scale for when he is spilling ketones, which he always does when he gets sick.
