My fiancee is a type 1 diabetic and….

Thursday, October 30th, 2003

My fiancee is a type 1 diabetic and has been for 23 years. The
problem is that her blood sugar “crashes” on her on a regular basis
and she has had to be taken to the hospital on several occasions
until her blood sugar came back up. What I am wondering is if anyone
can give me ideas to help stop this from happening. As I sai, she
has been this way for 23 years and “knows it all” so I really can’t
get too much straight advice from her. Any help will be greatly
appreciated. My e-mail is superdave_1268@…. Thanks.

I just joined this group, been part of other groups so far, it is
amazing what good advice you sometimes get on this. Although I am
pretty healthy now. I started drinking this herbal organic tea for
diabetics a couple of months ago and it REALLY works. Doesn’t taste
to bad either….ha ha ha. I ordered it from Youth and Herbs, can’t
remember their website adress…but they do all kinds of herbal
remedies. and they have this diabetic tea, its all natural organic
stuff and it really works, I promise. I would reccommend anyone
trying it.
i think their website is www.youthandherbs.com or it could be .co.uk
not sure my mom got it for me the first time.

Thank You for your messages

Thank you for tell me some of you stories and for the suggestions
you gave me. We went to the endriconolist(miss spelled) today is
HbA1C was at 12. So it is still way to high. Better than it was in
March, it was to high to register.
Somedays we are not sure if the moods are because of the diabetes,
the age or he is just having a bad day. We just keep praying for
lots of patients.

Hi Everyone. My name is Jennifer and i am a 21 year old diabetic of
20 years from Ontario Canada. I’ve struggled with diabetes, cataracs,
anorexia, bulima, mitro vavle prolapse, osteoparosis and my latest
venture is battling gastroparesis. I try to take things one step at a
time and am looking for support.
Are there any others on here with gastroparesis? If so i would love
to chat with you sometimes as i am really having a rough go with it
lately. Please feel free to email me.

has anyone heard of hepatic activation?

Sunday, October 26th, 2003

I was just looking at some different diabetes websites and happened
upon a site discussing metabolic or hepatic activation. It says that
the therapy consists of IV insulin therapy for 6 hours a week that is
supposed to help regulate blood sugars better than just regular
insulin therapy alone. Has anyone heard of this or currently doing
this? I’ve been diabetic for about 24 years now and have lots of
complications. I would love to find something to help me get better
control! Thanks for any input! Donna

Mom of a diabetic

Saturday, October 25th, 2003

My name is Shawn and my 14 yr son was diagnosed May 2002 with
Type 1. It was a huge blow because no one in our family has
diabetes. He has been hospitalized 4 times since he was diagnosed.
In Nov. he was down to 62 lbs and his bgl was over 1100 when we got
him to the ER.
He did fairly well with it for about 3 months and then it shot up
again and then we got it under control for about 2 months and now it
is never below 200.
We live in a small town with now support group for children and the
closes one is 2 hrs away from us. So I am looking for any support or
ideas I can get.
He is very angry right now and we have him in counseling but he
hates it and doesn’t really want to talk about his diabetes. We are
going to send him to camp this summer but he doesn’t want to go. But
we think he will like once he gets there.

Eating Out

Monday, October 20th, 2003

I need some tips. I have been using insulin for just a few weeks and
I am on a Lantus + Humalog regime. The hardest thing by far has been
predicting how much Humalog to take when I’m out of the house or vary
from weekday routine. This is what happened last night.
I went to a friend’s birthday at an Italian restaurant. I did my
homework before I went by looking up carbs on www.calorieking.com. I
planned what I was going to eat and I ate exactly that. (Dinner was
spaghetti with a sausage and 2 small pieces of bread.) My BSL was 160
before dinner. A little high so I took the 11 units I thought I
needed for dinner + 1 for “correction”. Two hours later my BSL was
135. I was thrilled. I didn’t check it again before bed b/c that
was only a little while later. When I woke up this morning it was
nearly 300!!
I am guessing that my dinner was full of “slow carbs” and the sugars
kept going into my blood long after the humalog was done. I asked my

Insullian Pumps `

Saturday, October 18th, 2003

Hi,

I have a 12 yr old stepson that would love to get a insulin pump. He does all his injections himself right now and is great at preparing his own meals and recording all his test data. We are so very proud of him. He was just diagnosed this past January as a Type I. He found out the hard way. He almost died from Ketoacidosis

But that is water under the bridge. He is doing great now. My question is; Is it too young for someone his age to get a insulin pump? Secondly how many parents have them on their children and how are working out?

Thanks everyone,

Farmer

New Member - Lantus & Insulin Pump

Tuesday, October 14th, 2003

Hi:
Iam a new member and Im glad that I have found a group for type 1
diabetes. Thanks for having me as a member.
Iam 39 years old, I have been a type 1 for 32 years.
I have been on an insulin pump since October 2002 and I cant begin to
tell you what a positive effect the pump has had on my diabetes. I
just wish that I would have gotten on one a lot sooner.
Also in response to the posts about Lantus, this has been my
experience with Lantus: I did use Lantus for a short time last year.
I only used it for a total of three weeks because Lantus and I did
not get along well. I switched from R and N insulin (several shots
per day) to Lantus. While using Lantus, my blood sugars soared and
were very uncontrolled…sooooo, back to the N and R. Also, back to
the 4 - 7 shots per day. Thanks to the pump, no more shots for me
and my bs is in excellent control, my A1C was 6.0 two weeks ago :) (more…)

Slow morning

Saturday, October 11th, 2003

Also to my last post, this doesn’t happen every morning but maybe
once every two or three weeks. I am going to talk to my doctor about
it soon but it may not be diabetes related.
