Slow mornings

Friday, October 10th, 2003

Hi, my name is Stephanie and I am a new member. I was wondering if
anyone here who is type 1 has ever waken up feeling sluggish or kind
of out of it. I have thought that maybe it was due to a low sugar
but I have never felt that way before until recently. I am also
thinking that it has something to do with me waking up on my back. I
have been diabetic for 9 years. Any info would help. THanks

Meter Ideas

Wednesday, October 8th, 2003

Hi everyone,
I joined this list last week. I’m a 29 year old T1, who’s had
diabetes for almost 15 years. I’m healthy, very active, and a bit of
a computer geek ;) Just looking for a little feedback on suggestions for meters. I’m
kind of a die-hard Precision pen user, and am at the point where I
feel its time for me to take the leap to a new glucometer. I went
out and got a OneTouch Ultra last week, and find it to be ok. I must
say that I don’t like the canister of strips - I find it very
different from the individually wrapped strips I’m used to! I guess
my main question here is whether anyone’s tried the OneTouch®
UltraSmart machine yet, and how they’ve found it. I have to
opportunity to get one in combination with my Ultra, and am not sure
if I want to do that as yet.
I have to admit the buttons and features make it a bit appealing to

question about Lantus and time zone change

Monday, October 6th, 2003

Hi all,

I have a quick question for users of humalog and lantus (together)

I will be traveling from the UK to Virginia for just 5 days and I have some questions about adjusting my meal and insulin plan.

how does Lantus work with this extra meal because of the time zone change?

does it make a difference if I take lantus an hour before my evening meal (as normally I take it before going to bed around 11pm)? should I just keep on taking it at the same time which will be 6 pm in the new time zone?

any help will be appreciated!

thanks a lot

question about proteinuria

Friday, October 3rd, 2003

My son is 13 and was diagnosed last June with type 1 diabetes. His
Hgb A1c has gone from 14 to 6.6 and he has lost 25 pounds. LAst week
a routine visit showed he was spilling prtein in his urine. THe Dr
ordered a microalbumin test on his urine yesterday and we have not
yet heard any results. Does anyone have any past experience with
protein in the urine. I know that this is a sign of kidney damage.
Any feedback is appreciated.

Tornados

Wednesday, October 1st, 2003

Hey everyone! I don’t know where everyone in the group lives, but I
just wanted to express my hopes that everyone is safe after the
terrible tornado outbreak last Sunday. We are in Kansas City.
Thankfully they all hit about 10 miles north of us here, and my
husband’s aunt’s family was missed by a matter of a few miles. The
pictures are horriffic! The Kansas City Metro area only lost one
life, but those south of us were not so lucky. Anyway, my thoughts
are with you all.
