E-mail to my doctor
The following is an e-mail I just sent to my endo a few minutes ago. I usually
e-mail her every thursday and she gets right back to me so I expect I’ll hear
from her later today or tomorrow. It’s a little long but if anyone else has
some feedback for me I’d greatly appreciate it.
“Dr. Martinez:
I am concerned about a pattern of hypos I am having.
Last Friday I upped my lantus to 23 units. My morning BGL’s have been as
follows:
Saturday 114
Sunday 96
Monday 131
Tuesday 121
Wednesday 113
Saturday I did not eat any carbs until late in the day so no morning Humalog
(had it around 2 pm)
Sunday through Wednesday I ate the exact same thing - a 60 carb muffin and
injected 8 units of Humalog. (this is the ratio that was working for me last
week)
My 2 hour (approx) post-breakfast readings were pretty good.
Sunday 126
Monday 85 (more like 2.5 hours later)
Tuesday 131
Wednesday 81 (more like 2.5 hours later)
But then, about 3 ½ hours after the injection I had a hypo:
Sunday 52
Monday 66
Tuesday 64
Wednesday 63
I’m afraid to lower the Humalog b/c my 2 hour post breakfast number may be too
high (e.g. over 140). I don’t want to reduce the Lantus because then my rising
number may go up over 120.
What do you suggest I do?”

okay thanks - I’ll try that tomorrow, since I do the exact same thing every day.

Yeah, my son used to go way down when he didn’t have protein.
