Suprise Diagnoses

Hey everyone, I found this group looking for sites about diabetes,
in particular Type I. I was diagnosed at the beginning of August
this year at the age of 41, 5 weeks after having my thyroid abliated
for Graves. Has anyone heard of a simular circumstance? I just
switched my N to Lantis and am now using the pen.

    Hi Pat,
I went through a similar situation. I was diagnosed at age 38 with
type 1, and within a week of being diagnosed with diabetes, my
doctor’s discovered I had hyperthyroidism as well. I believe I had
the hyperthyroid for quite some time, and didn’t realize it. This
did go away after about a year, but I believe it has come back.
    Will know by tomorrow.
My internest told me he read recently that this is happening to more
and more adults, and quite often they are not typical diabetic
candidates. Apparently they have started classifying us
as, ‘1.5′. :-) Is Lantus the new insulin I’ve heard about that you only have to use
once a day? We can’t get that in Canada yet.
    Good luck,
    Joanne
