stem cells?

Monday, March 29th, 2004

Okay, I know there has been a lot of research regarding stem cells
and curing diabetes. Does anyone know the latest? Also, have been
reading up on cells saved from umbilical cords of siblings. Is the
research positive?

School Walk for Diabetes

Sunday, March 28th, 2004

WE NEED DONATIONS!!!!! I am not out to take you for your money or
to con you. All checks will be made out to American Diabetes
Association by YOU and given to my son’s school on May 21 2004. If
you would like to donate 1 dollar it would be welcome. ADA will
then send you a conformation I belive you can use ase a tax
deduction. When I was a kid my mother always told me and my sisters
that we should not put to much sugar on our cereal because we could
get diabetes. Well 20 years later, she has diabetes along with both
my grandmothers, aunt, uncle, and more than a few family friends.
We try to tell her that she needs to watch what she eats and
exercise but she won’t listen and has just found out that she has
cateracts. That is why I am intrerested in my son’s school
fundraiser. Walsh School is having a school walk for Diabetes in
June. They are asking for donations in any amount. The flyer they
sent home says that type 2 diabetes is on the rise in children and

Hey thanks

Saturday, March 27th, 2004

Hi this is Patrick again. Some of the responses were appreciated
thanks. I am currently on a sliding scale taking Humalog and Lantus.
I’m still not knowing what to do about control when it seems like
everything else is on me too. My Grandmother passed away from
complications of diabetes and it seems like that would thwart me to
do better with my own but I just don’t know how to handle it.

What am I doing wrong?

Wednesday, March 24th, 2004

Hey everyone,
I am 25 and have had diabetes for 13 years now. The problem I’m
having is wondering how to handle it all. I’ve gained 20lbs. in the
past 3 months and my HGA1c has been as high as 14 back down to 8.9
and now runs on average of 200. I need help. I work almost 10 -
12hrs everyday and can’t seem to get on a regular schedule. I’ve
asked the doctor about going on the pump and they won’t do it until
my sugars are more controlled. My life just seems so consumed. Its
either do a good job at work and the rest of my life or slack off
and try to perfect my health and lose everything I’ve worked for in
the process. Anyone have any ideas or things that they do to try to
have the best of both worlds? Thanks any response would be well
appreciated. Patrick

good news for once…

Wednesday, March 24th, 2004

Hi all,
I went to the endo last week. My A1c level has gone from 8.9 to 7.4 in six
months. It’s the first time I’ve ever seen an endo actually pleased with my
progress. It’s not good enough, I know…but it’s a start. My goal is between
5.5 and 6.

lantus ?

Tuesday, March 23rd, 2004

Does anyone who uses lantus notice that it burns more than other insulins do
when injected? Sometimes I don’t feel anything, other times it’s a very intense
burn.

If you use Humalog…

Monday, March 22nd, 2004

Hello, My 14 year old son is overstocked on Humalog, and I am afraid
it may expire before it gets used. So if you use this type of
insulin and need some, please feel free to email me.

Hello, new to group!

Sunday, March 21st, 2004

I’m joining because my fiancee is a type 1 diabetic and has been
since he was 3 (he is now 35). I do not know much at all about this
disease other than it can lead to future problems if not controlled
and he doesn’t like anybody to fuss over him, ask about it, worry
about it or about him. I most often act as if nothing is different
with him in that regard because I truly do not know much about it
although I’ve been reading more and more. I found this group because
I really need to educate myself and I don’t want him to feel I’m
being judgemental when I do question his health or how he is feeling
(he often works very long hours and doesn’t eat properly at all -
needless to say I do actually worry about him quite a bit). He uses
the insulin pump, keeps his level relatively normal (I think-he
claims he can just tell from how he feels) and has very little
problems other than his sight is horrrible and he seems to be
fatigued/tired often. He does not exercise (and maybe is only about
