What am I doing wrong?

Hey everyone,
I am 25 and have had diabetes for 13 years now. The problem I’m
having is wondering how to handle it all. I’ve gained 20lbs. in the
past 3 months and my HGA1c has been as high as 14 back down to 8.9
and now runs on average of 200. I need help. I work almost 10 -
12hrs everyday and can’t seem to get on a regular schedule. I’ve
asked the doctor about going on the pump and they won’t do it until
my sugars are more controlled. My life just seems so consumed. Its
either do a good job at work and the rest of my life or slack off
and try to perfect my health and lose everything I’ve worked for in
the process. Anyone have any ideas or things that they do to try to
have the best of both worlds? Thanks any response would be well
appreciated. Patrick

    Patrick,

You never mentioned what type of insulin regimen you are on. You may be able to talk to your doctor about changing regimens to suit your lifestyle. He may also suggest more frequent testing. I know the thought of sticking yourself more often isn’t that great, but sometimes you have to make trade offs. Also, do you have a desk job? I had to work on lowering my carb intake to help control my weight because I work at a desk all day and have about an hour commute each way. I know it is frustrating, but please keep trying. I really believe that, as diabetics, we can still lead full, happy, productive lives AND be successful!! I really hope we can help you. Please write with more info about your life & how you are treating yourself.
