The positives about diabetes

Hello All,
I have never formerly introduced myself to this group. I had posted
about a month ago donations for my diabetes walk. I had just also
posted a question, but now I would like to tell you about me and my
stepson.
My name is Lisa. I married my husband about 2 years ago. I knew him
for a year previously. My husband has full custody of 2 children,
one being a Type-1 diabetic. He is using syringes to get his insulin.
He has taken his disease pretty well. Occassionally he will whine
about not getting any extra cake, pie or ice cream (but heck who
doesn’t! LOL)and he will whine sometimes about getting poked with a
needle. Some days, he tells me that he wants to be a doctor so he
can find a cure (or is it cuz he wants more ice cream! hehe)
I have read several posts in this forum where people say that they
hate this disease etc. etc. Sometimes, I think of it to be a

blessing….
Now before anybody goes off on me, I, in no way shape or form wish
diabetes on Anybody! I just want to give you all my positive
thoughts with my experience with diabetes through my stepson.
I believe….
1. This disease will make you nutrionist experts!
2. That this disease will not let you take things for granted
(I really liked the post about the grapes) :-) 3. That this disease will eventually give you such mental strength.
that you will be able to overcome anything.
4. That even though some organs in your body don’t work, others are
blessed by it because you are eating a healthy diet compared to
a high sugar diet, which has harmful effects on your heart, eyes
and brain.
5. That this disease can enable you to educate others about eating
a low sugar, healthy diet.
If they don’t have type 1, they can get type 2.
and I believe that the diet has a lot to do with it.
6. That this disease sometimes gets you out of some things!
Ex: house cleaning, …. oh, sorry I can’t my sugar is low!
(had to put a funny in there!)
I’m sure some of you out there have some positives.
Enlighten me! :-) Lisa
