You may be ill but it’s not my problem ………..

Tuesday, April 13th, 2004

A few years ago I contracted pneumonia after a bout of flu. My doctor
is not a diabetic specialist and has limited understanding of day to
day control etc.
My hospital consultant refused to see me on the grounds that it was
not the job of a diabetic clinic to deal with ongoing illness etc.
Between the two of them they nearly killed me.
Has anybody else had this problem (and lived to tell the tale)?

diabetes cause-solution

Sunday, April 11th, 2004

FACT: Over 85% of the population is overweight!
CAUSE: TOXINS………most all toxins are put into our body at the
end
of our fork! As a society we have destroyed the air, water and food
we
eat, so whats left? Over 3,000 chemicals are deliberately added to
our
food supply, thus, by the time the food reaches our stomach we have
consumed 10,000 - 15,000 chemicals a day!
RESULT: As the body takes in toxins/chemicals/poisons, the body
automatically manufactures fat to surround these poisons to keep them
from flowing around in the blood and lymph, causing immune
breakdown.
The more toxins the body takes in, the more FAT that is stored in the
tissues/organs.

stress

Saturday, April 10th, 2004

Wow! This morning I had a 125 anatomy and physiology test at 8am…YUK.
Anyways, my blood sugar went from 105 to 384 during the taking of that test.
It’s so interesting to see what can stress can do.

Lantus and novalog

Friday, April 9th, 2004

Last fall my son tried lantus at night and novalog pens with meals
for diabetes rather than the 2 shots a day he had been taking( of
NPH and regular insulin)
For him the combination didnt work at all. We upped the amount of
novalog and lantus and his blood sugars were out of control.Always
in the mid to high 200’s. We switched back to regular and NPH with
the same diet and his sugars are now in the low 100s. For some
reason lantus and novalog didnt work well for him.We talked to the
doctor when we switched back and they didnt know what to make of it
either~
Any suggestions as to why it didnt work for him?

lantus ??

Thursday, April 8th, 2004

Does anyone else notice that lantus starts to lose power after about three
weeks? I keep it in the fridge like I’m supposed to, but after about three
weeks my sugar levels start to climb. Sometimes a small increase helps…but
other times I notice that when I open a new bottle I’m back to normal.
But….sometimes it’s too soon to get a refill and I have to increase the dose,
which makes me nervous. I’ll have to have my doc write for two bottles a month
I guess.

Help university student project – please take survey, improve di

Wednesday, April 7th, 2004

Hi! I’m a student at the University of Pennsylvania. I’m not
diabetic, but have friends who are, and have a keen interest in
health care, education, and finding solutions to diabetes. The goal
of my senior project is to better understand ways to improve diabetes
education and awareness of treatment and prevention options.
I would really appreciate it if you could take the time to fill out
my survey (it’s a word doc) and email it to me. It’s essential to my
research, and you can be entered in a drawing to win prizes valued
from $40-$65.
Prizes include A Diabetic Care Sample Pack with diabetic cookies,
glucose tablets, skin crerams and much more, an Ascensia Breeze Blood
Glucose monitor, and a month supply of nutritional supplements
specially designed to help keep diabetics sugar levels under control.
The survey is for research purposes only and you will remain
anonymous. No personal medical information is requested, only your

this may be an ignorant question…

Tuesday, April 6th, 2004

I don’t know much about diabetes. My brother in law was diagnosed
with it when he was 5. His mother tells me he got it from her
giving him aspirin when he had the flu. I was hoping if anyone
could tell me if this is possible or impossible? I have a daughter
with autism, which I believe may be an autoimmunity issue. I am
going to begin learning about diabetes because I heard it is also an
autoimmune disorder? Like I said, I don’t know much yet, but I am
dying to know if the aspirin thing is possible. If it’s not, then I
will begin to look into the idea of an autoimmune disorder being
familial only manifesting differently in each person.

The positives about diabetes

Sunday, April 4th, 2004

Hello All,
I have never formerly introduced myself to this group. I had posted
about a month ago donations for my diabetes walk. I had just also
posted a question, but now I would like to tell you about me and my
stepson.
My name is Lisa. I married my husband about 2 years ago. I knew him
for a year previously. My husband has full custody of 2 children,
one being a Type-1 diabetic. He is using syringes to get his insulin.
He has taken his disease pretty well. Occassionally he will whine
about not getting any extra cake, pie or ice cream (but heck who
doesn’t! LOL)and he will whine sometimes about getting poked with a
needle. Some days, he tells me that he wants to be a doctor so he
can find a cure (or is it cuz he wants more ice cream! hehe)
I have read several posts in this forum where people say that they
hate this disease etc. etc. Sometimes, I think of it to be a

Need some advice/vent!! (long)

Friday, April 2nd, 2004

My 14 yr old nephew was dx today w/ juvenile diabetes. I’ve cared
for older family members w/ diabetes & have 2 dear friends young as
bucks & healthy w/ diabetes, BUT my in laws are having a fit over
this!! Yes, I know it’s a serious life-long disease, but it is not
a death sentence. Yes, I know there are complications and side
effects (especially when trying to get insulin regulated), but MIL &
SIL are totally freaking out. SIL actually told me about a “man at
their church” who has had multiple leg surgs & is in a wheelchair.
I asked how old he was….78!!!! Hello??? That’s no spring chicken
there!! no offense to any readers :) As it is, nephew’s parents are very involved w/ the boys’ sports &
school so nutrition takes a serious backseat (take out EVERY
night!!). MIL & SIL are adamant that this poor eating is the reason
child has diabetes. I am trying (hard) to explain genetic factor,
but not making much headway.
