Caffene Raising…Jeff

Wednesday, June 30th, 2004

Jeff,

I liked the “white coats” term. Gave me my giggle of the day. I would also tend to agree with you. “They” don’t have trouble saying “I think you should stay away from that, just in case” so caffeine would definetly be “on the list”.

My daughter can raise her sugar level a whole 200 points just by worrying, or sleeping, or growing. So many factors.

Caffene Raising Sugar level

Sunday, June 27th, 2004

Hello Guy,

This is the very first I’ve ever heard of that even being a possibility?!?! Even straight caffeine (if you could find some somehow) would simply be a stimulant, heart rasing, adrenal response… but it should not be a signifigant amount of “rise”… any chance you’re getting the bounce from another source triggered in the same general time frame?

Dawn effect? A bounce from a “low” earlier ? To me that kind of thing sounds a more likely source…. there’s no question an adrenal response (the fight-flight syndrome) does raise sugar levels but… if coffee were a common source of this kind of problem… wouldn’t that be on most ~white coat folks~ serious “no” list of foods…. ?

Aloe Vera Gel Extract and Type 1

Friday, June 25th, 2004

Hi All,
Has anyone tried using a drink made up of aloe vera gel to help better
control of high blood sugar levels ? www.foreverliving.com advertises
a product that helps type 2 people. My mom recently sent me a can of
this drink and asked me to try it out. I was told that this gel
extract is a good supplement to maintain overall health.
However, a research on the internet for its specific benefits to type
1 diabetics does not show adequate information, and barely mentions
some positive benefits for type 2 diabetics.
Published research does not mention significant benefits of this drink
to diabetics, it only mentions probable benefits and that too the
results are fully not substantiated.
I will be discussing this aspect with my doctor soon. But in the
meanwhile can others in this group shed some more light on this
product through their own personal experiences ??

Hi Jimmie,

I just joined this group myself, for my daughter. She is 7 and I wanted to get an idea of what lies in our future.

You have blown me away a bit with your complications, has it been like this for everybody?

Please go into detail if you can.

Caffeine ( and tea)

Saturday, June 19th, 2004

Thats really interesting that you mention this, because I have been trying to figure out the same thing, if caffeine truely does raise my blood sugar, it seems it does when I drink it wiht a meal or within 2 hours, but otherwise it doesnt? Not sure if this is just my imagination or what?

I also just learned of something that helps my blood sugar after breakfast, I drink a cup of caffeine free berry tea and every morning that I do that, its 20-40 numbers lower! I didnt today and it was back up again, so strange~

Take care

Caffeine raising blood sugar

Thursday, June 17th, 2004

Hi Cheryl
I’m new to your group, have been an insulin-dependent diabetic for 33 years,
and live in Cape Town, South Africa. And yes, I too experience raised blood
sugar levels from caffeinated coffee - of course, there is a form of glucose
present in milk (lactose) so perhaps it is the lactose from the milk I add
to my coffee, but I don’t think so, because the increase in blood sugar is
often greater than warranted by the amount of milk I put in my coffee. So, I
assume caffeine must raise the blood sugar in some way, but why it does I
don’t know.

Guy
