coffee and rash

Wednesday, June 16th, 2004

Hi all:
two quick questions from a new diabetic:
1)does caffinated coffee raise anyone’s BS?
2) I have a rash (almost like small little
pimples)around my neck, behind my ears and on my face.
Anyone experienced this ever? I take Humalog and
Lantus.
Any input appreciated!
Thanks in advance…

Diabetic publications?

Tuesday, June 15th, 2004

I am a graphic designer looking for work. I would like to find a
diabetic publication. I have tried to contact the ADA to find out
where the Forecast is actually done. I haven’t had any luck reaching
anyone at their office by phone. Anyone know of other
publications I could send a resume to?

a cure (Was:back on the pump)

Friday, June 11th, 2004

I know it seems this way but pharmaceutical companies are not the only ones searching for a cure. There is also the ADA and JDRF not to mention the hundreds of independent researchers out there. Pharmaceutical companies make tons of money on all kinds of diseases. Diabetes is not the only chronic and expensive illness out there. Besides, do you know how much money a cure would bring them?
I don’t know if there will be a cure in my lifetime or not but I know having the hope for the possibility helps to keep me out of depression. Many of us long-timers can tell you of all the advances we have seen in just the past ten years. At the time of my diagnosis diabetes care was in the dark ages. We still are to some extent but there are a lot healthier diabetics these days than there were in 1963.

We should arrange a “Chat”

Wednesday, June 9th, 2004

, shouldn’t we?! To the left of the message board,
in the menu, is a link for a chat room for this board. It works–I’ve gone
in–but
there is never anyone there. If we agreed on a day and time to pop in, maybe
we could do some “live talking”, as it were. I live in the Eastern US, so East
coast time, some evening after 9pm or so is probably best for me. How about
it? Who wants to meet up?

hypo’s for Jenny

Monday, June 7th, 2004

Hello Jenny,

FIRST, no NORMAL person wouldn’t been shreaded… so take it easy on yourself.

When are the lows happening? Try juice or half a normal sugared soda its faster and easier than forcing foods to bring you up…. you’re scared and angry… you will be ok.

When do you take the Lantis ? When had you taken the Humalog relative to the lows?

What’s your basic schedule been looking like?

Repeated lows, typically have a pattern somewhere. CUT BACK on the insulin, its too much….. you are not alone.
Now smile damn it you’ll be a great nurse very soon!

hypoglycemic

Sunday, June 6th, 2004

I’ve had hypoglycemic episodes at least once a day for several days in a row. Yesterday and today were really bad. Tonight I dropped from 102 to 55 in less than an hour. I ate like 60 grams of carb and still only made it up to 75. I’m tired…I’m worn out. Right now I’m lower than I should be at bedtime and I’m so not interested in food, but if I don’t eat I’ll be low in the middle of the night.

At the doctor last week my doctor decreased my lantus and increased my humalog. I go back on the pump Thursday. I’m thoroughly convinced I’ll never reach consistant normal numbers.

I feel so burned out.

back on the pump

Sunday, June 6th, 2004

I saw my doctor on Friday and I am going to try using my pump again. Another doctor took me off it in February after an apisode of DKA. I’m excited, but a little nervous too. My sugars are all over the board. I was really high yesterday (400+) and also low three times. I am due to start nursing classes in less than a month and am terrified that my health won’t hold out.

BM stix to be withdrawn

Thursday, June 3rd, 2004

An advert in Balance from the manufacturers says that the infamous
BM stix are to be discontinued from September 2004. Do you think we
should put a pack in a display case somewhere?
They were once the mainstay of home blood testing. However they were
completely useless if you were colour blind. Should we mourn their
passing?
What else could we put in the display case? Clinitest tablets, glass
syringe etc?
