Anyone know a good MD?

Friday, July 30th, 2004

I was just wondering if anyone knew of a good endocrinologist in the
NY/NJ area. I have been going to one for about 2 years and I really
really REAllY dislike her. I asked her about going on Lantus on many
occasions because with NPH I always get a bad low 3 hours after I
take it, since I take in in the AM before breakfast that means I have
to eat again 2 to 3 hours after having breakfast when I’m not even
hungry(this is especially annoying since I am trying to loose a few
pounds)anyway, everytime I mentioned it she just kind of ignored me
actually. So I haven’t been to see her in 1 year and am running out
of refills for my RX. So I was just wondering if anyone else was
from my area and knew of a good one. Thanx

Hi, I’m new.

Tuesday, July 27th, 2004

I just wanted to say hello to everyone and introduce myself. I
didn’t even know there were any message boards relating to diabetes
and this is 2nd that I’ve found! It’s so great because I don’t know
anyone else with this disease so it’s hard to talk to anyone about
it. Anyway, I am a 23 female and was dianosed with type 1 when I was
11 years old. It’s always been sort of a sruggle for me so I am
hoping that by chatting with others going through this I may find
some solutions to my problems and maybe make some friends along the
way.

hope i don’t miss anything…

Where do you keep your supplies? (was: the night shot)

Thursday, July 22nd, 2004

I keep all the supplies in the kitchen in a cupboard over the fridge. I keep the stuff we use daily in a cupboard near the sink. I have a sports watch that has 12 alarms a day and beeps for everything we need to do, I like it for trip in th car and for class trips, when time can slip away. (like Syd would ever let me forget snack time…)

We keep used syringes in a water bottle from poland springs for those office cooler systems, it is 5 or 10 gallons and really freaks out the friends and family who come to visit because it is half full and we started it in April, tee hee…

Does everyone have a little pack they take with them everywhere with snacks, test kit, and gluco gun?

COMPLIANCE

Monday, July 19th, 2004

as an overweight person and a mom to a type 1, I think I get it. I stay on a diet 1 to 2 weeks maybe and then I am off for a month or more and try again. If I were diabetic I would maybe be a bit more vigilant but I know I would cheat.

My heart goes out to all of you.

My biggest complaint is this new low carb phase with packaging SCREAMING “LOW CARB!! LOW CARB!! and when you read the nutriton info it is NOT low carb. The best is the sugar free reese cups which have 22 carbs per serving, regular reese cups have 21!

[type1_diabetes) the night shot

Sunday, July 18th, 2004

How often have you fallen asleep and forgotten? Twice I have woke with a start to realize that I have forgotten the 1030pm shot. Both times was before midnight, but I still thought “mother of the year award for you, NOT!”

Digest Number 494

Wednesday, July 14th, 2004

Brian,
Your story brings back memories. Right before I was diagnosed, I had no
idea I had diabetes…I just thought I had some kind of weird flu bug or
something. So I did what I always do when I get sick…I fixed myself a big
cup of soup….this time it happened to be french onion soup.
Unfortunately, shortly after eating it, I ended up in the ER in a very
serious episode of DKA. As they were working me up, one of the nurses kept
leaning in…and she finally explained that she was trying to “smell for
ketones” on my breath. Poor girl…all she got was a big ol’ whiff of
vidalia onion!
Cheers!

Caffeine/milk

Monday, July 12th, 2004

but isn’t anything below 8 not something to worry about if that is all you are having? How much milk do you put in your coffee? I would say even a 1/2 cup of whole milk (and creamer is less carbs and heavy cream almost nothing) is only 6 carbs. That seems like a lot of milk and I like latte’.

the children

Friday, July 9th, 2004

Of course I am “just the mom” but I wonder if the treatment has changed dramatically over the years?

Are we all counting carbs here, or am I assuming too much?

Although my daughter has a strict schedule, there isn’t anything I have to say “no” to, just “wait ’til later”.
