Blood sugar over 1000
Hello, My name is Margie and my husband Tom was diagnosed today with
type 1 diabetes. Orinally his B.S. was 1088, after six hours in the
E.R. and lotsa insulin he’s down to 427.
I’ve asked the dr’s and nobody’s giving me an answer to is how close
he was to coma or God forbid worse. I’m just grateful he’s still
alive and praying there’s no permanent damage.
He’s still showing signs of mental confusion (one doc, bless her
heart was talking psych exam). I didn’t think I’d have to explain
that with a sugar of 1088 he’s not his normal self and might not be
a candidate for a psych unit. Sheesh.
So just out of curiosity what’s the highest B.S. you;ve heard of.

Margie–I was in the 900’s when I was dx’ed 40 years ago, as a child. I was
also in a coma for 3 days. However, I have also heard of people walking into
the doctor’s office with glucose levels as high as 1600, so I’d guess it’d
depend on how quickly it comes on, and the size of the person. Good Luck
with Tom–how old is he? Welcome to our group–we have loads of
experience, so ask your questions–you’ll have loads of then!

Thank you all for your support and kind words.
Tom is doing somewhat better, his blood sugars still are in the 300-
400 range, but his mental alertness has improved 100%(corney sense
of humor still intact..thank goodness).
With his age (56) and previous medical history…stroke (fully
recovered) & hypertension I’m sure he’ll learn to live with insulin
shots and watching his diet.
Thanks again….Margie
