Advice for April
Hello April,
Ok, IMHE-fwiw (in my humble experience -for whatever its worth) the regimene you are on is precisely the one most T1’s are on. Some people LOVE Humalog, others Humalin, others some other short acting insulins. Then you add in the long acting insulins for “complete coverage”. (The diabetic sugar fairies are giggling at this one). The endo is trying to get your numbers down SLOWLY. He/she could make your baseline 100 instead of 150, but that runs the risk of you bottoming out…. so to start they aim just slightly higher and if you get the desired patterns, then they’ll likely ~correct your aim~ for those last 50 points.
A1C’s are wonderful tests (they have accurate home versions too btw). But its an average, and only an average. Don’t sweat this single extra point… its a number and not a very high one either! Life is a stressful creature… and god knows diabetes is not a ~fun game~ in the least. What all of us are attempting to do as diabetics is play the “pancreas game”. In short as you probably realize we are aiming at simulating a pancreas via our injections, or pump, or pills. Unfortunately its not candyland. It will require a lot of laughter from you… a whole lot of patience and mostly PERSISTANCE.
Don’t get emotionally attached to the numbers or they will literally make you insane. Then the “sugar police” will come and lock you away in the padded room (Ever see the movie Panic Room <g
Does this help any?
