went to doctor today

Hi, everyone,
I went to the doc today. I went with a positive attitude, and left
with an “I don’t really care” kind of approach.
I have kept my sugars within the range I desire, 179 average. But,
the doc said it is too high. I have to have it within the 80 to 120
range. Whose life is this, anyway? Is there anyone else who
desires to keep their sugar a bit higher than the “perfect” range?
So. Doc recommends an endocrinologist to help me attain the goal
SHE believes is appropriate. She said THIS doc will not have me
wait for 3 or 4 months for an appointment. So I called. The
earliest appoinment is February. Hm. Seems like 3 months to me. I
made the appointment, but have no idea what my school schedule will
be at that time. We will see if I have to cancel, due to school,
and see if this new doc throws me back to the wolf of my primary
care doc because I cancel appointments.

My endo says 6-7 is normal for a1c readings. An a1c of 7 is about equal to an average bg of 170. Sounds like you’re doing a pretty good job, and I bet the endo will agree. I know mine wants me to get closer to 6.5, but that is still an average of 145-150. I sympathize with your fear of lows. Maybe there is room for compromise, though. Have you considered aiming for about 150? Or do you get the “shakes” when you get down to about 120? Just some thoughts, take them as you will. Good luck either way!

Keep a stiff upper lip, it may be better at the endocrine, once you get in! (lol)

Let us know how it all turns out.
