Sydney was on the news!

Monday, January 10th, 2005

We went for her costume fitting today and there was a camera man there from CBS (local to Philly) news and he took some video and they showed it on the 4pm news. It might be on again at 6pm and/or 11pm.

Her performance with Pa Ballet will be Thursday, December 30th at 7pm.

Thanks for letting me gush!

Thank you so much, it feels so good to be complimented on every day procedures that others are clueless about.

Hey, All!

Thursday, January 6th, 2005

Hello! I just had to share my latest news with you all, since I
*know* you will understand! I just got my latest A1c results
yesterday, and let me tell you, I was *floored*! Last February, I
was at 10.6, following a particularly stressful Holiday season
(several deaths in the family, including my Dad). My last blood draw
was on the Saturday after Thanksgiving, and I am proud to report that
I came in at a ***6.2***!!! I had to ask the nurse to repeat
herself, I was so surprised. I don’t think it has ever been that
good, but I’ve been really trying hard this year. (Don’t get me
wrong, I haven’t been denying myself, just keeping better track of
what I eat & timing my injections better! Yes, I said injections.
Not pumping. Nothing against it, but I have a hard time with it,
mentally.) Since there are only 3 non-diabetics in my life who
actually get what I am talking about, I just had to share with you
all. Maybe it will offer hope to the ones who are having a tough
(more…)

Fact or Myth

Monday, January 3rd, 2005

Ok boys and girls, it’s time to play Stephanie’s favorite game, Is
this true? Today’s issue is fiber.
Madelyn’s nutritionist told me that if a food has over 5 grams of
fiber in it, to deduct the number of grams of fiber from the total
grams of carbs in the serving to get your actual carb number.
For example, I made Madelyn a sandwich with a whole wheat tortilla.
Each tortilla had 31 grams of carbs, but had 21 grams of fiber.
According to the nutritionist I should only count something like this
as 10 grams of carb.
Madelyn gets 30-37 grams at each meal. If this were the case then
I’d have to give her 20+ more grams of carbs, which would seem like
an extraordinary amount of food.
How do all of you count fiber?
Thank you as always,
Stephanie

burn out

Saturday, January 1st, 2005

Does anyone else ever feel burned out with this disease?? I am at the end of my rope; I want to just take my pump off and forget about it all. I haven’t checked my sugars today…haven’t eaten either. At this point I almost want to end up in the hospital. Let someone else take care of my blood sugars for a while….cuz right now, I don’t feel like I can. :(
Sorry….don’t want to whine…just need to vent.
