Hi Robby in Indiana, Welcome!
You will meet a lot of people in the same boat as you. Unfortunately they have been in that boat a long time. Most are diagnosed prior to 10. But you won’t be shunned or anything. So jump right in and ask any question you think of. Someone usually has an answer or will be seeing a doctor soon. Don’t be shy…
Thanks for caring and sharing,

I think it wasnt so much how high the sugar was, but how long I had
delayed treatment which meant my body was getting little to no
insulin for so long. In April of 04 I felt bad all month, just tired,
throat scratchy and then my hubby and baby got sick so I thought we
all had the flu, however I continued to just get worse, by the end of
April I was peeing buckets and my vision was getting worse. However
being nearsighted I again shrugged that off, thought I was sick from
stress and the flu and allergies. Also I was loosing a lot of weight
but sense I had wanted to I again didnt worry then by finals in early
Mary I was reallly sick, throwing up and blurry vision, but again
shrugged it off as needing new glasses, and thought “oh god I hope Im
not pregnant again” since I missed my period I worried about that. I
had an appointment for the doc, but for about a week I was really
sick, but it again felt like the flu as I was having trouble breating
(kusmals respirations) I did a great job of thinking “it was nothing”
almost to the grave. I called an ambulance on May 16 cause I thought
I had pneumonia. I think during this time I was not with it mentally
cause I was so sick but didnt “realize” how sick I was. My blood
sugar when the ambulance got there was 600, and around 650 when I got
to the hospital, my ketones were almost unrecordable by the lab, my
ph was unreal, my blood pressure like 200/180, my lips were blue as
my body was shutting down and I was in a coma for 5 days on a
ventilator and in ICU 2 more days and in the hospital another week.
The doctors told me they had never ever seen anyone as sick as I was
live. it was either my potassium or phosphorus that got down to .01%,
my o2 sats were something like 60-70 and I had brain swelling. Guess
it just wasnt my time! And I do still have effects but mild, my right
foot got some nerve damage, the small stroke I had made my left hand
and leg a little week, and there is some optic nerve damage they are
going to look more into next week. however at least I can walk, talk
and see and still got my kidneys! So I feel incredibly lucky.
man! i’m glad you turned out ok. you came close to dying! i guess i’m
not the only one who had no idea what was going on when they didnt
feel good for weeks.
