i am leaving

i’ve decided to leave this group. i came here to talk to people, and
all i got was a bunch of scare stories from people who think that
havin diabetes is a death sentence. no it isnt! i can not believe
that some of you can sit here and act like you know more about this
then an ecronologist who went to school for probably 10 years
studying this. i cant believe you guys act as if you know more then
the american diabetes association! you can PREVENT those
complications! they would never have wrote that you can if you
couldnt. just because 1 person doesnt bother to do what his doctor
says and croaks, doesnt mean another person will. most people do not
get those complications. i know because i’ve talked to tons of people
who have had this for up to 50 years and have had no problems. what
you guys dont understand is i am a christian, and i have jesus and
god looking out for me. they will keep me safe, and keep me free of
complications. i have 100% faith in that. if i were to ever have

problems i know they would let me catch it early so they could stop
it. i can not believe that you guys are sitting here telling me that
there is no stopping the problems and that once you are diagnosed you
are destined to croak. thats total b.s. most people do not die of
this disease. the people that do are the people who dont stay
committed, and dont take care of themselves. sure anything can
happen, but if you take the right steps, you will stay healthy! i am
going to a group where the people know that just because you get
diabetes, it doesnt mean you’re going to have bad things happen to
you. this is a controllable disease. the things you do can stop bad
things from happening. i’m not going to let myself sit here and read
crap like you’re going to die, and crap like that. oh no i’m not! i
am going to stay healthy and live a full life. this isnt 1920 anymore
for gosh sakes! i wish you people in here all the best. if you want
to go around thinking that you are doomed, go ahead. not me. i know
that if i keep myself healthy, i will not get any of those problems.
jesus is with me always, and he will keep me healthy.

Robby, I think you are interpreting our posts too defensively. You
stated in a very obtuse way yesterday that you found your care to be cheap.
You also blurted off that you will never have the complications others
have. Optimism is fine and the fact that you are embracing this disease,
    taking care of
yourself and educating yourself is great…….but you stepped over the
line calling anyone on this list a hypochondriac. There is nobody here
that can be labeled as such.
This is a group of loving people who are grappling for answers to why
their bodies are not doing what is expected despite the dr.’s orders.
    They have issues,
fears, and most of all you have quite a few mothers with young children
that are diabetics that they care for. This is a tedious and worrisome
job. Having a child with an illness like this takes an extreme amount of
patience, education, trial and error. I bow down to every mother on this

list that takes this disease and works for the health of their children.
Let me give you a little more education to add to what you have learned.
25 years ago, Type 1 diabetics were considered insulin-dependent up to
    the age of 18.
As the years have passed when I was diagnosed 15 years ago, the limit
was 29, I was 28. Now……..it is raised to as high as 50+. Reason
being that diabetics all present differently. Their bodies process
insulins differently, some require less, some more. Some care for
themselves in their own way. Nobody wants to scare you away with horror
stories, they are facts of life that happen to diabetics.
Let’s educate you a little more. Did you know that the majority of Type
1 women have large babies at birth, usually 9+ pounds? Did you know that
men can become impotent from this disease as they get older, well
controlled or not? My brother-in-law (very tight control) has suffered
with impotency for 10 years now and it’s very frustrating for him.
Yes there are options, Viagra, Levitra, but they don’t work for him.
They have offered a penile implant. Can you honestly say that you would
want a rod put into your penis? Not!!! Most men do not want that area of
their body fooled with unless it’s in a sexual way. He’s also due to
have a quadruple bypass tomorrow morning
Have you read the Joslin guide to diabetes? I would be very interested
in knowing what you have read. The ADA booklets paint a pretty picture.
This website gives you straightforward info that you can one day when
not feeling well, think back, Hey, Carol had that happen one day.
Do you know how to handle a ’sick day’?
I have had many times read about members that have had bouts of DKA that
crept up on them and they were hospitalized due to it. I have read about
members who did not have wonderful insurance to cover their medical needs.
You ask my complications. As of right now, I have nerve damage in my
feet and urinary bladder which leads to self-catherization.
The physician’s puzzled because I have other health problems that can
cause this to happen. I have Cervical Spondylosis and 9 herniated discs,
3 in each section of my spine. My spinal cord is also wrapped. I CANNOT
have surgery because of the diabetes and a skin condition that keeps me
from healing properly. I am under tight control (HbA1c 5.5). One of the
best neurosurgeons in Washington, DC is hesitant to operate on me.
Robby, this website is not intended for horror stories and or in any
way meant to scare you off, it’s reality in the purest of forms. There
are some people I know that are very non-compliant, but you cannot
    generalize everyone.
Yesterday, you hit raw nerve with me because one day you may need
someone to feel compassion for you and they won’t be there.
I am going to end this with one more thing. If you were as educated as
you claim, you would not have showed astonishment over how much any
person takes when it comes to their insulin.
    Carol

Well heres my 2 cents Rob!!!!
I am glad you have Jesus in your life but I hate to tell ya this, we
all are gonna die one day!!! and it may not be due to diabetes
either. Life is too short to have people like you come in thinking
you are holy than thou!!!!! I happen to stay silent in here most of
the time but you pushed my button!!!! my daughter and noone else in
here deserved to get this awful disease, but as of yet there is not a
cure not a 100% maybe someday.
I had an uncle that died when he was 32 back years ago when the
medical didnt know much. there has been such an advantage now and you
are trying to bumm us all out….well its not working!!!!!
you can believe what you want and so can we!!!! I dont like the way
you think you know everyting either and we need each other in here as
a friend, sometime we understand each other better than the
Dr’s….they explain things and we dont understand. even the animas

website has support groups so if you cant be nice then adios and god
    bless you too!!!!
you’ve got me all wrong. i’m not the one who was acting like a know
it all. it was the people who blatantly said i was going to have
horrible things happen to me and there was nothing that i could do
about it that ticked me off. me bumm you out? lol thats ridiculous. i
never said i knew everything. i wasnt the one acting as if i knew
more then a doctor who had went to school for years and years. maybe
you need jesus in your life?
