Pump survey
Hello-
My daughter, now 14, was diagnosed with Type I diabetes in February
2004 (February 21 to be exact). She has done remarkably well on
Lantus and Humalog…(I wonder if she’s still ‘honeymooning’-1 unit
Humalog breakfast, 1 lunch, 2 dinner, and 6 Lantus). She is very
interested in the insulin pump and we are in the process of
evaluation for a pump. My questions are to anyone who is using or
has used a pump:
*What brand did you choose and why?
*Did you find any drawbacks to the pump? If so, what were they?
*What type of catheter device did you use and why?
*Any other words of wisdom?
I would appreciate any advice!
Thanks in advance-

Have you taken a pump class?
They will have all the models out there available to look at and you will see the way they hook to your body as well.
Your daughter seems to be on low doses of insulin for her age, what is her carb to insulin ratio? My 7 year old is 15 carbs=1unit humalog. So an average 30-45 carb meal is 2-3 units.
We are on track to get the pump in Feb (the 16th to be exact, the day after we get back from Disney) So I can answer those questions at a later date.
She picked the mini med because she liked the color (blue) and the size(it seems to be the smallest)
Thanks for caring and sharing,
