Animas Pump Info

Friday, December 30th, 2005

April,
Just thought I would let you know what I have found out regarding the
Animas pump. I, too, are in the process of getting an insulin pump.
I am deciding between the Minimed and the Animas. My Animas
representative told me that the 1250 pump is the same as the 1200 but
the 1250 will have upgraded software. It will look the same as the
1200 model. You can see this pump on their website, Animascorp.com.
It is due out at the end of this month and I am considering it.
Hope this info is helpful.

Family & living w/ diabetes (was living with diabetes/Jenny)

Wednesday, December 28th, 2005

Good Morning Jenny,

Family……. funny creatures. The can say some really stupid stuff….

We are diabetics….

Our familys are given a seat at our “proverbial table” whether they choose to or not. You don’t have to love them all the time Jenny… we only have to cope with them. They get a “seat” at the diabetes table purely because sometimes they find us unconscious, disoriented, or otherwise in “diabetes fairyland”. Worse still while we live with the disease… they are only voyeurs, and can do absolutely nothing about what we endure. They get to watch and cope… right or wrong, good or bad… they can nag, whine, cajole, plead or scream… but first and last they only get to watch, Mother, Father, fiancee, brother, wife. Anybody who loves us, gets a seat here because of their love…

Some family sympathize, and feel for what we go through. Others empathize… yet there are many who are angry that somethinng “we” or they did, (or did not do) but something that could be “controlled”, some minor factor that to their mind was “the critical piece”… had someone done something RIGHT…. well then the big IT (whatever that might be) would never have happened…. For them it’s a control issue, pure and simple.

Sounds like your mother has some major groveling in her future… she said some awful things to you, once said can never be called back…. Sounds like… in time you’ll have lots to talk about together Jenny…

If you had never existed in the first place, it would be someone, some thing that was the next source of their suffering, their latest pain. They don’t get off THAT easily, don’t you let them off that hook….

Now, in plain english Jenny… we’re always ~a couple units away~ from death. Its just that simple. Make a better choice…. find ways to laugh at the disease, your diabetes dragon… F-I-G-H-T. Whatever you do in your future Jenny whether single or married, a couple or a family… we get to write the scripts. You have experiences now which will make you an IDEAL nurse…better than others who only treat the conditions, illnesses… but never first hand had the experiences which you have had……. you are a diabetic, a woman whose had some “dark places” in your life… use those experiences….

Release of Animas 1250

Tuesday, December 27th, 2005

I am really bummed and just had to vent a little. I just spoke to
my Diabetic Case Manager at Kaiser and she said it will be at least
6 months before Kaiser will even know if they are going to add the
1250 to their Animas contract! She said she doesn’t know why I
don’t just get the 1200 and then have it upgraded. I am under the
impression that even when the 1200 is upgraded the software will
still not be exactly the same as what the 1250 has? She also
suggested that I consider the Mini Med; but, that’s because she is
also a diabetic and has used the Mini Med exclusively for over 10
years. So I’m open for input from other members as what they think
would be the best to do(or what they would do in the same situation);
wait for the 1250 or just go with the 1200? The diabetic case
manager also said that the local Animas rep couldn’t even give her
an estimated date when the 1250 might be available?

i’m home

Wow….I still cannot believe that I did inpatient psych for NINE days. I was discharged on Friday evening and have spent the majority of my time catching up on quality sleep, time with my kitties and homework. I am oh so buried in homework. Over the weekend I felt like by the time I have caught myself up I will have undone all the work that I did while in the hospital. Oh well, so far my teachers have been understanding and flexible. Life will go on.

As far as the urges I had that put me in the hospital, they are some better, but still there. My newest thing is to see how long I can go without eating when my bloodsugar drops. Yes, I know, not a good thing….

Oh God, my God, why have you
abandonded me?

Question what was it before……..

Friday, December 23rd, 2005

Good Morning Lori,

I won’t tell you what it was before (even if I did know) it would only scare ya……….

The readings that we take with our little machines give us a BASIC idea more or less where things are sugarwise.
They are NOT “accurate” purely because they are not drawn from the vein…. They are close but not veinous readings…. and lots of things can distort the numbers that being the case….
Its the best we’ve got for now, so we use it……

Time for a morning test……. anybody want to do my reading for me (ie use yours instead of mine ; ).

Question about the latest poll

Thursday, December 22nd, 2005

I haven’t filled out the poll yet. I am wondering about going lower
than what shows up. I am thinking that when I get a very low
reading, it has been lower and only come up because of being given
something to help. I know the one time they had to call the
paramedics, I had a reading of 29, after I had been given glucose
tablets, juice and the glucose gel. If it was 29 after all that,
what was it before?

Minimed Pump

Wednesday, December 21st, 2005

Thanks to everyone who responded to my questions on the insulin
pump. At first, I was leaning towards the Animas but it looks like
everyone has the Minimed and are happy with it.
Thanks again and I will watch out for the door knobs :-) Evelyn..

Insulin Pump ???

Tuesday, December 20th, 2005

Hi all,
I have been working on getting an insulin pump and it looks like my
work has paid off. I have a choice between a Animas Corp and a
MiniMed pump. I wanted to see if anyone could help me decide, if
they liked one better than the other or which one they have.
Animas just came out with a new pump (due out end of this month) and
it seems like the Minimed is also fairly recent.
More advice needed: Just curious, does the injection/hook up site
hurt when you go to put the tube in? I’m not a big fan of thee
needle but got used to it. Is it similar?
Also, I am a toss/turn person when I sleep and was wondering how the
pump has affected them, do you have any suggestions?
Thanks in advance for any advice!

“dying tomorrow”

Sunday, December 18th, 2005

Good Morning John,

<Speaking only for myself, diabetes has shaped my perception of things that happen to me and my affect on “things”.

How so :

And do you think having it now for…. 44 years is it…. having it for that long has ~altered~ your way of thinking, your thought process in any way that is… less positive, IYHE (in your humble experience)…. purely because you are a person who has diabetes??? Without it, you’d think, or act meaningfully differently in the WAY you do things… (not asking so much about the how)

I’m trying to figure that out myself, and having been diabetic all of my ~conscious life~ (hummmngh there’s a baaaad diabetic pun there somewhere) I’ve often wondered how/if I would perceive things differenty… for example, sans/without the “pretty dragon” (SSI) <that’s the initials for SERIOUS sarchasm intended for anybody who’s wondering

Anyone else ever wondered, if its effected (or is that affected???) the way which they perceive things BECAUSE you are a diabetic…

Anyone……?
