just got out of the hospital/have strange pain

Wednesday, June 14th, 2006

Naomi,

The only bladder problem I may have is not knowing exactly when I have to go really bad. Otherwise, there is no pain. I have been diabetic for 36 years. There are times, however, that I get bladder infections. Then it hurts like hell. When it does hurt, I usually wait a day or two, (I know, that is not recommended), and drink an 8 ounce glass of water every 20 minutes to pee out any potential bacteria that may be in there. Buggers can’t swim worth a hoot. This seems to help.

It won’t help if you are NPO, and not allowed to take in anything by mouth, but once you are able to drink, then knock yourself out.

Also, there are muscle relaxers (phenergan) I use when I am sick to my stomach to be able to keep food down to avoid lows. In that instance, the food is usually coke. Then I sleep for a very long time, through anything.

I hope you are feeling better now, and, even with stones, water is supposed to help.

Move the Vacuum and Your Body

Have you ever raced around the house to get the dusting and
vacuuming done before guests arrive, and then found you’re out of
energy? Have you noticed your blood glucose level gets low whenever
you mow the lawn?

The U.S. Surgeon General suggests 30 minutes of moderate physical
activity at least five days per week. Moderate intensity is anything
that raises your heart rate, including cleaning. Thirty minutes
sounds like a lot, but you don’t have to do it all at once. If your
chores increase your heart rate for 10 minutes or more, you can
count it toward your exercise goal.

Ten straight minutes of moderate intensity activity three times a

Eyes

Sunday, June 11th, 2006

Hi, I also have had the bleeding spots which are broken blood vessels
behind the eye. It was found the last time I saw an opthamologist and it
was an idiot neurologist that had found them and had a fit about it.
Being diabetic, I’ve had two eye docs tell me this id normal being a
diabetic and was never told not to take aspirin. These spots heal on
their own and it’s my understanding that they happen even with healthy
people can just be due to age as well as eyesight changing as we age.
I was aware of something because sometimes I would see a black spot
float by. Or they would float by on the sides of the room.
3 years ago, I had quite a few that were healing on their own and
haven’t had a problem since. The last eye dr. I saw told me that if I
see the black spots, it means they popped. That’s about all I know about
them. I’ve never had laser surgery and right now, I need to get glasses
and new contacts because reading small print now is hard for me. I
haven’t been able to see far away well since 1989.

Update on ANA Result

Thursday, June 8th, 2006

Thanks Mary & Jennifer for responding. I wanted to let you know that I
saw the rheumatologist today and I too, was put on baby aspirin. He
asked me if I felt any pain in my joints and since all has been well,
he stated I don’t need to follow up with him for at least 1 year. When
I asked him what blood tests came out positive besides the ANA, he told
me that I have a positive on a name I can’t remember but it causes
clotting. So I guess Jennifer, you and I have alien blood. :-) Thanks for the info and support…
Evelyn :-) P.S. Trying to have a baby so I am trying to get all in order, I get
the pump this Thursday!

Bored with Your Low-Carb Diet?

[INLINE]

Youve resolved to make a change. Youve been diligent - watching everything you eat. And your low-carb diet is working. But the biggest roadblock is boredom. Sound familiar?

Changing eating habits is never easy, but theres no reason to resort to the same tired menu choices. Rely on this booklet to perk up your meals and eliminate the drudgery. Practically carb-free, eggs provide the foundation for a variety of quick-to-fix dishes - all naturally delicious. What more incentive do you need to keep eggs at the top of your shopping list? But there is more. Breaking out of the monotony results in eggstra benefits:
* Perfect Snack - What could be a more perfect snack on a low-carb diet than a hard-cooked egg! Make a dozen to eat plain, stuffed, or in salads and sandwiches. They’ll keep for a week in the refrigerator.
* Versatile - Eggs define versatility. Pair eggs with a wide array of other low- carb foods for thousands of satisfyingly scrumptious meals - from breakfast through dessert.
* Convenient - Eggs plus a frying pan equals meals-in-a-flash. Whether scrambled, fried, or poached - from a frittata to an omelet - start with these recipes and then substitute your favorite ingredients to create customized meals that are eggsactly your way.
* Satisfying - Eggs are satisfying. Their moderate fat content keeps your stomach from emptying too quickly. So you wont feel starved - or be tempted to snack.
* High-Quality Protein - All proteins are not the same - there’s a difference in how efficiently our bodies can use protein. After mother’s milk, eggs contain the highest quality food protein. All the protein in an egg is absorbed and retained, giving it a maximum digestibility score.
* Essential Amino Acids - Egg contain complete proteins. All the amino acids your body needs are found in an egg in just the right proportions - making it easy to build and maintain lean body mass.
* Portion Control - Eggs come in their own neat little package, so you can make the exact amount needed - whether you’re serving one or twenty.
* Value - One egg has as much protein as an ounce of lean meat, poultry, or fish. Pound for pound, its a better protein buy.

Something to snack on

Tuesday, June 6th, 2006

Boy, I need some help. I have been bad the last few days by having a
small snack between meals. Obviously not the right snacks either. I
was doing real well on keeping my blood sugar between 80 and 110. Not
so much now. I feel a major lecture coming on when I fax my numbers in
this week.
What are your favorite snacks that are free or close to it? And please
don’t say pork rinds :) Thanks, and hope everyone had a nice weekend,
Mike

Positive ANA Blood Result & Diabetes

Sunday, June 4th, 2006

Hi all,
I was just curious if anyone here has had a positive ANA blood result?
I was only diagnosed with Type 1 last November but when getting one of
the many blood test the endo requested, she found I had a positive
ANA. My main doctor referred me to a rheumatoid doctor which looks for
lupus and he told me he couldn’t tell me if I had lupus or not. So,
now I am trying to do my own research to see if there is any relation
between diabetes and this result. Since diabetes is an autoimmune
disease, I thought there might be. If anyone else has experienced
this, I would appreciate any thoughts or suggestions.
Hope you all are having a nice weekend, Evelyn :)
