First Day with my Insulin Pump

Thanks to everyone who has given me advice on this group. I was so
undecided which pump to get and I decided on the Animas 1250 pump
which
after being on saline this past week, seems really easy to use. I am
a
scaredy cat when it comes to putting in the infusion set but my
doctor
prescribed me elma creme which I recommend to anyone like myself. I
couldn’t feel a thing. I can already see how much easier it is to
eat
without all the fuss and preplanning. So far, my blood sugar levels
are higher than normal but I would think that would have to do with
my
doctor taking me off Lantus last night. I hope things get under more
control as we go along.

Thanks everyone and happy pumping :-) Evelyn

we had to go off Lantus the night before we went on the pump for real too, not wanting to risk lows.

I can’t believe I was timid and worried, I love the pump, but the best part is, Syd loves the pump even more then I do!

    Thanks for caring and sharing,

    Steve,

What’s a ‘food database?’ No one has explained that to me, and I had the pump consult already…. hm….

Yes, Steve, but you got Banff, Jasper and Fernie….

    Steve,

The doc’s office really pushed the minimed. But, there are some things I like to eat that are not on the carb list, I am sure…… homemade cookies, pot roast made with a little bit ‘o this, and little bit ‘o that, so I am not too concerned about not knowing the carb count. But, it just sounds like a handy tool to have available.

I have a call in to my doc’s office to see where the process is with the insurance office. The nurse who takes care of it was supposed to call me back quite a while ago, but I have not yet heard. I would like to get the pump and be comfortable with it before I start working in ICU. (That’s where I found my first nursing job…). Not cool if it messes me up in the middle of somebody coding on me.

    Thanks, Steve!
