Diagnosis

I have a few questions for the parents of the group. How did the
doctor’s discover diabetes in your children? What is the normal
glucose level of a child? I was assuming it was near that of an adult
since insulin would cover whatever a child ate. My sister just told me
they are looking for it in her grandson. He is almost three and during
his routine checkup had a glucose level of 124. I didn’t think that
was too bad, but they told her daughter that it was for his age and
size, he is on the small side. They are going to schedule him for the
glucose test sometime next week. Also, what is the difference between
the six hour test and the three hour one? How long before they know
anything? I was a little bit older (almost ten) when I was diagnosed
and I was really sick, so this is all new to me. Thanks for the help.

My daughter was diagnosed when I called her pediatrician saying she was drinking a lot of water and was feeling a little under the weather. They did a urine test that took like 30 seconds and we were rushed to the Children’s hospital emergency room. ( my husband and I took her in our van, not an ambulance) Her sugar was 475, but everyone said she was the first to walk in on her own accord in a long time, so they were pleased.

    Normal range is 80-120.

    Thanks for caring and sharing,
