Alcohol & fasting

Thursday, August 31st, 2006

Judith,

I did not feel like I was starving, because I filled up on all the diet Pepsi I wanted…. it was a bar, and I laced it with lime. : )

At the time, I was not testing (back in 1983), but I never had any problem with going low. The exercise of cleaning the place, cooking, unloading boxes all contributed to keeping the sugars in line, I think. This was back in the time of Regular and Lente only. Lente was new.

Sorry I can’t give any definitive answers to this one. (puzzled look)

Fasting… literally.

Wednesday, August 30th, 2006

Jeff,

Yup, fasted for 5 days straight. Kinda a combination thing. I was at a new job, and was at work from 6am to noon, then from 5pm to 2am. VERY little sleep, no time to eat. So, I did that for 5 days. Then, shortly after, I read somewhere that is the best way for a diabetic to lose weight. And, I DID! Lots of it. Stomach had gotten smaller from not having to stretch, and I was full in much less time/amount.

Nowadays, the Lantus will cover the basal needs, and there is really, in my case, no need for any Humalog if I am not eating.

By the way, this was in a REALLY hick place, and I could turn on the jukebox and dance while I mopped the floor. Exercise was a part of it, too. : ) (One of the songs on the jukebox was, “Were You Born an A–H—, or Have You Worked at it Your Whole Life?”) Humble beginnings.

I quit that one when one of the ‘ladies’ thought I was messin’ with a friend’s husband, and she was going to rearrange my face. I am not THAT tough! LOL People were NUTS.

Any other regretful jobs?

Newbie with a Stress Question…

Wednesday, August 30th, 2006

Hello Mary,

Ungh-ungh…

A person under stress their sugar will NOT drop, unless they also have a broken adrenal system too. The stress hormones ALL make things climb. Takes a ridiculously short time, but its nearly instantaneous. Think about it, heart pounding through your chest… adrenaline flooding through ya… looking for something to run from or to strangle as the case might be…

All things the body is giving us massive energy to do, via those hormones. There are lots of lengthy technical articles out there on the subject.

I wanted stress to be “the cause” but it wasn’t… figured mine out eventually.

Fasting… literally.

Tuesday, August 29th, 2006

Hello Folks,

Fasting, the act of going without food can be done for lots of reasons. Frequently medical reasons (with icky tests to follow…), for blood tests, religious reasons, philosophical reasons…. all kinds of variations and possible reasons to do so…

Any of the T1’s on the list done so, for a whole day… or longer? On purpose and by choice I mean…

Blueberries

Monday, August 28th, 2006

Hello….

There was some decent science behind the ~blueberry thing~ but not geared toward lowering the sugar.

As I remember some nutrient in the blueberries was pretty promising re: reversing the capillary damage, improving the blood flow? But they were having better results with organically grown blueberries from what I remember. Doubt I’ll find the article again, but I will try.

Nightmares & Lows

Sunday, August 27th, 2006

Hello Lisa,

There is documentation of HIGHS and WEIRD, weird dreams…. I’m 99% sure there was also something fairly recent re: lows too. Either way, it makes perfect sense. The brain chemistry composition is seriously altered because of either the excess or lack of glucose thereof. Makes perfect sense you’d get weird, weird stuff either way.

Check the Joslin website… I believe it was there. (New England Deaconess Hospital just outside of Boston)

I have a Question

Friday, August 25th, 2006

Or sort of major concerns here, and a little worried.

I have worked Full time since having a major Nervous breakdown in 1992, and being hospitalized and getting SSI and SSD. I have worked a lot of part time jobs also since then too. I was working full time until 20 months ago, when my Dr. made me quit my job due to the problems I was having with my leg, and open chronic wounds.

But as all of you know Praise God, my wounds have been healed now completely since around Valentines day. I have been receiving SSD again due to my leg since Mar 04, and getting Medicare since May 04 again… Now they want to know my work history, etc.. and I am afraid, sooner or later they will declare me fit to return to work… and not want to help me anymore.

Actually, I would Love to be able to work Full time again, but I would be without any Medical for at least a yr. due to my pre-existing condition. I guess I am stressing a little bit, thinking if SS thinks I should be working, how will I be able to get the help I need etc. with my Diabetes, Insulin, etc.

If you have any thoughts, suggestions, etc. let me know. Also if you could remember me in Prayer for Gods will with this situation, I would appreciate it. Thanks!!

Thank you, Jennifer!

As a matter of fact, there is a spray on oil that works really well. I will try to get the name of it when I am home.
