Good job, everybody… Carol thinks we all left. : )
I’m not receiving my messages or the group is awful quiet. Please respond.
Thanks,
Carol Cusick
I’ve been working on getting my 15 year old to pass 9th grade so I don’t have to drive him to summer school at 8am all summer. I ALREADY DID THIS HOMEWORK!!!! ARGH.
: )
Joan
Thank you, Jen!
are there certain foods that lower it better than others?
thanks
Mary,
That is wonderful news! Congratulations. I know you were concerned with the whole thing, but, as you say, it is working out for all the best.
Joan
Vicky,
I would let my kids ride the school bus. I used to ride my bike to school in elementary school, and then the bus in high school. If there were to be a problem on the bus, I believe a parent must fill out an emergency card for each child, and the bus driver has a radio if needed to see what to do. That’s just my 2 cents worth, though.
Joan
hey everyone
I have a question or 2 for the parents. Do you allow your child with
diabetes to ride the school bus? And if you do, would you want the
driver to know?
Vicky
We have an exciting update for our volunteers! In the May issue of “O,
The Oprah Magazine”, Dr. Faustman is highlighted as one of five
breakthrough women scientists in this special 5th Anniversary Issue.
Still more exciting, she was placed at number one on the list.
The journalist, Rabiya Tuma, writes:
“Working with mice bred to have the equivalent of type 1 diabetes,
Faustman found a way to cure the disease. She treated the animals with
a drug targeting the out-of-control immune cells that cause the
disorder, leaving the rest of the immune system in tact. If an
upcoming human trial is successful, it will not only improve the lives
of diabetics but affect all autoimmune disease research. Scientists
thought it was possible only to treat the symptoms of diseases like
multiple sclerosis and lupus, rather than their causes. ‘We’ve broken
that paradigm and shown we can reverse the underlying problem,’
Faustman says.”
