10-12 what per day? I am confused… : 0
Hello Jen,
<<no i eat whatever i want when ever i want to eat it…..
When wasn’t that the case though???
We always could even in the “dark ages”, you just had to make VERY certain you ate the necessary quantities within the general “right” time span? But provided you ate say the 3 meat exchanges, the three breads, the two veggie A group at SOME point within that given time frame, <shrug
<<but i check my blood 10-12 times a day and do a correction with my pump as needed.
Now you’re doing that to calculate the different basal rates, correct? (10-12 per day save maybe, possibly sick days still seems over the top (: Z.)
Jeff
Romm,
Every one is different when it comes to carb coverage. I use 1:15, or 1 unit for every 15 grams of carbs. As for the coverage of the glucose, I use 1 unit for every 50 points above 150 I want to lower it.
If I had your numbers, I would use 3 units to cover the carb intake, and 2 units to get my sugar down approximately 100 points to 140. Totalling, 5 units. HOWEVER, it also depends on when you took your last shot. Please speak with your diabetes specialist to determine where he/she thinks you are as far as carb coverage, and the base numbers where he/she wants you to be. This was just an example, and, as I said, all of us are very different.

A HA! I always wondered why Lantus could not mix with short acting! Thank you, Jennifer.
Joan
could someone give me a simple rule for carb calculatiion. Example
would be how much insulin after lunch is 45 carbs allowed and BS was
240 before lunch. Thanks Romm
Lisa,
I had one doc tell me he would not do a release until trying the shots. He was a jerk, and as I sat there with him dictating into his little machine, I got up, turned and told him to dictate the fact that he’s an A–H— into his little microphone.
Then I went to another doc and had the release done. You may want to try another doc for a second opinion, which is, of course, just my opinion. : )

I got a cortisone shot for trigger finger. Oh…the joys of being a
diabetic…let me count the ways…Anyway, so far it’s not working. Does
anybody remember how long cortisone takes to start working? If it’s not
working in 5 weeks, he’ll give me another one. Then if that doesn’t work,
he’ll do the release. I don’t know why he just doesn’t do the release. I’m
going to end up having to have it anyway. My insurance must pay him well
for office visits. Thanks.
Lisa
It is great to see that you have such good control…It must feel good
to know that the effort you put into taking control of this disease is
working. I am going on a month now with my pump and I am starting to
reep the rewards…I feel better and I hope I am on my way to your
success. Can’t wait. I started with 7.8 A1C so I am curious to see
how the pump helps me. I know it must be coming down since my meter
told me my average is 139 which is 50 points lower than before. You
were one of the first people I talked to when I found this group.
Reading about your experiences with the pump influenced my decision and
thanks for the advice because I am SO happy I went with it.
Congrats and goodnight, Evelyn ![]()
Hello Jen,
Congrats…
Please, pretty please, be blessed CAREFUL. You’re in dangerous proximity to what I call waaaaaaaaaaaaaay too tight a control. Its also what the Life Insurance folks call that range too btw, at least last time I played with them anyway. Anything below, I think it’s 6 ASL emoticon is a “red flag”… I’m sure it works, sure it makes you blissed-out of your mind, understandably. Just watch your butt, ok?
As for the 2 to 1, did you talk to HIM, to her? You knew where things were, and ARE a diabetic, (its not too often WE outnumber “them” ; ) Did you “dance” with the unhappy lady? You at LEAST give HIM the secret handshake Jen <Jeff preparing to be REAL disappointed if you did not) ???
13 point something I kinda, sorta remember those days, and it was not because of any actions on my part. I wrote protocol the way I lived, and it was was worthless. Then, something clicked, and poof, no more double digits, then the self tests came along <dismissive shrug
Baaaaaaaaah, humbug I say…. cannot be attached too much to em, they’ll make us insane!!!!!
Jeff (donning his diabetic “badge” & white hat routine) (hoping Jen did too).
