If anyone’s up — please write
My daughter has had her first episode of DKA since her initial
diagnosis in Jan 2004. She’s been battling a flu/cold for 2 days,
and this morning her ketones were at “large” level. They’re back
down to small, and she’s drinking a lot of water, but even though
her blood sugar was also back down to 210 this morning, it has
steadily increased throughout the day. Just now it was 365! She’s 14
years old and normally keeps her blood sugar fairly stable, even
when sick. Her last A1C was 6.6. I don’t know if I should wake up
the endocrinologist again (there’s only one pediatric endo in
Vegas), or even take her to the hospital. Her ketones are still
at “small.” This morning the endo increased her insulin dosage by
quite a bit.
Please write to me directly at desertpoetess@… or respond on
the group. I don’t know whether to wait it out through the night and
call the doc in the morning…or maybe give her a couple more units
of humalog.
