Do T1’s stay skinny?
Hey all. Just something I was wondering about. So, the typical T1 is
portrayed as a bit on the skinny side when diagnosed. Does this
continue for life? Or does the ‘eating up to the insulin’ take over?
And do you still have this phenomenon (eating for the insulin) with
the newer insulin regimens? My son is still little for his age- ht.
and wt. Just wondering what all your experiences have been.

That is a great question…every time we go to the endocrine they are amazed with my daughters growth and i wondered if other type 1’s were small for their age when diagnosed before puberty. We average a 1/2 inch every 3 months and once had a change of an inch.
Thanks for caring and sharing,

Good Morning Melissa,
Guess this all depends on how much we EAT on a regular basis now doesn’t it <wg
Saying anything with certainty is hard, because there are lots of obese diabetics, some by bad, dumb habits, some by genetics, some based purely on their personal sloth…
The good thing is that every single one of us can improve our weight, and reduce it, by a combination of many very simple factors. How much we eat, and of what being the largest factor in most cases. There can be issues concerning how much insulin that we use, CAN cause weight gain, which is a somewhat complex process I guess… but one of the reasons you dont want to use too much insulin… it will help raise our weight, if we don’t take whatever efforts we are able to prevent said gains.
