Long time no post
Hi Everyone,
It’s been a while since I’ve posted. Our email sites at work have
been blocked so I sneak when I can. But just a quick note to share
what’s been going on in Maddie’s world.
Guess who went on the pump today? Me, ok just as a practice. Maddie
will start practicing next week, then go “live” on June 24. She is
soooo excited. I wasn’t too excited until I actually started wearing
it myself today. What an amazing little machine. How did we get to
the pump? Well her six month check up in April showed an A1C of
8.2. I thought we had been doing better than that, but after a week
of around the clock testing it was determined she’s having hidden
highs. I suggested we switch to lantus, the doctors said go right to
the pump. In the past few weeks she’s been requiring lunch time
shots, and some middle of the night shots, it’s getting to be alot on
her. The both of us have reached that “I hate diabetes” point in the
disease. I’ve had my hesitations about the pump, but they have
almost guaranteed better results. We have an Animas IR 1250, in blue
which is just lovely. So anyone who is familiar with this little
gizmo, drop me a line. My new email is Stephanie.Zayicek@…
if you have any words of wisdom.
I hope all is well out there with the rest of the group. Miss
chatting with you all, but I guess they want us to work here at work.
Regards,
Stephanie

I wonder if Animas or another pump company could make a specific “outback” pump. Or, O’Charley’s pump?
Yesterday, I went to a Dairy Queen drive through to get a small cone to keep me awake on the drive back from Charleson. They took my money, gave me the cone, but when I asked how many carbs are in a small cone, they said, “sorry, the chart that lists those are gone.” I handed the cone back to them and got my money back. (I did it nicely.)
Anyway, one of the women checking and administering the NCLEX yesterday at the test center is going today for her pump initial meeting. I have met quite a few very nice people because of the pump. What a strange world in which we live.

Lori,
I will keep you in my prayers as well. Having to give up some of our favorite things is one of the stinkiest parts of this disease. And having someone tell you to ‘concentrate on the GOOD things’ is not very helpful at times. We are allowed to grieve our losses, for Pete’s sake!
Perhaps it is peritoneal dialysis?
If you need to vent, vent away! We understand and can listen quite well!
