Driving

Thursday, December 28th, 2006

Hi everyone,
Just wondering if any of you have had problems driving after getting
diabetes. I was only diagnosed last November and ever since, I had
problems with eye sight as well as not feeling confident behind the
wheel. I am always worried about my blood sugar falling and I tend to
get a bit anxious. I went to the eye doctor to see about getting a
prescription but she told me I need to wait a little longer for my BG
to level out more.
I guess I am feeling ready to get back to a “new” routine and without
driving, that is almost impossible for me…any suggestions or
experiences??
Have a good weekend..Evelyn :-)

Perscripion help

Wednesday, December 27th, 2006

I heard a commercial on tv a week or so ago, and didn’t have a pen to
write down the phone number, but someone else I know did. If you have
to spend over $50 a month on perscrips, these people say they can
help. Becky has no co-pay on hers, so I’m very lucky to have it.
This is worth a shot, and I hope it works out for you.

I Got the Job!!

Monday, December 25th, 2006

I am now Employed. I got the job at Circle K, and looking forward to being a part of the work force again. I officially start 6/27.

I already had gotten a note from SS letting me know they deemed me no longer disabled, so after August 31st, I will not have much for Medical help, but will be checking around and making some Phone calls to see what is out there. So this could put a stronger force on what I will have to pay for, but not sure yet. My Pre-existing condition could be a factor.

So Thanks for the thoughts, and Prayers. No we will see how my BG deals with working. I have never worked and been on Insulin before. Any advice?

Had a bit of a scare yesterday…

Went to a baseball game, got hot and sweaty and my infusion set pulled out w/out me knowing about it. I pigged out on all the game food, a couple hot dogs, some cotton candy and lemonade, bolusing for each not knowing I wasn’t getting any insulin into me. The end result….508. I changed my infusion set and it came down nicely…but kinda freaked me out…..no time for DKA.

Mint

Tuesday, December 19th, 2006

I just went to breakfast with some friends of mine and one is a type 2
diabetic. She mentioned that she read somewhere that diabetics are to
avoid mints. Has any one else heard this or would you know where this
idea came from? I hadn’t ever heard this and was just wondering.

Hi all

Monday, December 18th, 2006

I have a question,
My youngest daughter Jessica has type 1 diabetes and is on the
insulin pump. She was diagnosed 2 years ago, after getting her
tonsils out she got drastically sick, well my oldest daughter Amber
was just in a terrible auto accident April 23rd, its been almost 2
months and she is loosing weight, thirsty, and tired, we checked her
blood sugar a few minutes ago and it is 164….is that too high??? I
know Jessica is suppose to keep hers between 90 and 120 and actually
she feels really sick when she is 90…but I checked mine and mine
was 90 tonite…I randomly check mine too, just cuz I am
curious….well Amber also has what looks to be thrush on her tongue
and Jessica also had it real bad infact the dr could smell her
breath and right away said he thought it was diabetes….my next
question is this???? do you think it takes something traumatic to
bring this about???? God I am just so sad and Amber isnt even healed

Corticosteroid-Sparing Regimens in Renal Transplantation: An Expert

Saturday, December 16th, 2006

I thought those of you looking at transplants might find this
helpful.
Corticosteroid-Sparing Regimens in Renal Transplantation: An Expert
Interview With Herwig-Ulf Meier-Kriesche, MD
Editor’s Note:
Corticosteroids (steroids) have played a critical role in the
evolution of renal transplantation. The first transplants were
performed under azathioprine (AZA) monotherapy,[1] but with few long-
term survivors, investigators were prompted to design a better
regimen. In the early 1960s, it was discovered that AZA and
corticosteroids had additive and synergistic effects in renal
transplant recipients,[2] and by 1964, this approach became standard
therapy worldwide.[3-5] In modern immunosuppressive regimens, the
cornerstone agents are the calcineurin inhibitors cyclosporine and
tacrolimus; corticosteroids along with other agents such as

Everything I read here

makes me so glad that being on Insulin has been able to regulate my BG back to a more normal level. Matter of a fact, since switching from R to Novolog with my Lantus keeps me at times running Lower than 100 a lot of the times which at times I have the low symptoms with.

So for now, with everyone elses Posts, I am Glad I will not have to consider the pump.

Dilema

Thursday, December 14th, 2006

I know I have posted a lot over time, about my personal life, and just wanted to post the latest, and see what people think, and suggest I should do, and go from here. It is something I need to really think about, and work towards the solution.

I have been on SSD for just over a yr. due to when I had Chronic wounds (stemming from my Diabetes not under control), but these have been healed with no problems, for 4 months now. SS made me go thru another evaluation, and with Doctors notes, etc. declared me no longer needing Disability and have kicked me off. I will get my last Check in August, and my Medicare will end August 31st.

I have applied for work, and have a job Interview in the morning at Circle K… where I used to work before I had to quit for a while due to the Chronic wounds. I am thinking positive that this will work out for the best, and the job is Full time, so that is not a problem for the $$ if I get the job.

But due to a pre-exisisting condition, I might have to wait at least 9 months or so, before I could even use Insurance from somewhere if I get something. The job at Circle K does have some Insurance, but it only covers up to $1000 a yr. which is very little with being Diabetic. So now I wonder where I turn for options? Any ideas?

Thanks for listening, and I need some ideas… and ways to continue to get my Supplies I will need.
