Hi all
I have a question,
My youngest daughter Jessica has type 1 diabetes and is on the
insulin pump. She was diagnosed 2 years ago, after getting her
tonsils out she got drastically sick, well my oldest daughter Amber
was just in a terrible auto accident April 23rd, its been almost 2
months and she is loosing weight, thirsty, and tired, we checked her
blood sugar a few minutes ago and it is 164….is that too high??? I
know Jessica is suppose to keep hers between 90 and 120 and actually
she feels really sick when she is 90…but I checked mine and mine
was 90 tonite…I randomly check mine too, just cuz I am
curious….well Amber also has what looks to be thrush on her tongue
and Jessica also had it real bad infact the dr could smell her
breath and right away said he thought it was diabetes….my next
question is this???? do you think it takes something traumatic to
bring this about???? God I am just so sad and Amber isnt even healed
from the accident yet, she just had a EEG yesterday to check to see
if she may have developed seizures from the accident, she has bit
her tongue in her sleep 2 times now….sorry to carry on…I am just
not sure what to do…guess I am about to take her to the ER….I
will let you all know tomorrow what I find out….love to you all,
Tami

Hi Tami,
I’m so sorry for all the problems that are happening to you folks
right now, and I hope things will all turn out ok.
From everything I have ever read and some research I once did to
assist in writing a thesis on diabetes, it would seem that in T1,
you have to have
1) the gene for it, which is, obviously, “defective” to put it in
simple terms,
and
2)a trigger that activates the gene and makes the diabetes “kick
in”, usually the trigger is some kind of illness such as a bad case
of flu, or severe infection, that sort of thing
With your younger daughter’s symptoms and her BG levels being higher
than normal, I would think that would warrant a trip to the doctor:-
) But I am sure you already have one planned, didn’t you say?
God willing everything is ok. Please let us know it goes.
Take care,
Caroline
