Tingling Feet

Not since the diagnosis in October have I been this scared, I need
guidance from the experts out there, until I hear back from the endo.
For the past two weeks, Madelyn has “complained” about her feet feeling
tingly and numb. Usually right after she’d say it, the feeling would
fade, and she’d be back to doing whatever she was doing.
Last night, she cried and cried because her feet felt so numb. Isn’t
she a little early for this? She’s only six. My heart is breaking and
I don’t know what to do for her. I tried rubbing her feet and it only
seemed to make her more agitated.
What is causing this, and will it get better? She always has shoes on,
I never let her go barefoot anymore. I spend more time looking at her
feet than probably any part of her body. Could it be related to her
pump? About the time she started the pump, her feet started acting up?

    Stephanie,

I am, by no means, an expert. I can only relay what happened in my early, very uncontrolled, life.

My feet did not start to do the weird things until I was in my 30s. I was extremely uncontrolled, and Madelyn has been very well controlled for most of the time of being diabetic. And, she has had the diabetes for such a short time, I somehow doubt the tingling is related. There could be a pinced nerve in her lumbar area, or some other easily explained reason for the tingling.

I found over time that there is usually a place to put pressure (varies with the individual) that alleviates the tingling/pain to some extent.

I know this does not help you nor Madelyn very much, if at all. But, as I said, it is just my two cents worth, but I don’t think it is a diabetic complication setting in yet.

Please let us know what the endo says, and keep us up to date. In the meantime, my family and I will say some prayers for Madelyn.

    Joan
