Intro -Kate

Saturday, April 28th, 2007

Dear Kate,

It is wonderful to hear things are going so well!!!

<Severely amused look

As for lack of eye contact, or even his “size” lets ask you the question… is there anything you can truly do about it? As for his weight he’ll take care of that himself… with his voracious FEED ME routine ; ) As for Guy’s lack of ~direct eye contact~ probably not either………

My kids HATE eye contact too (and they are older), but its got nothing to do with the ~diabetes dragon~… they just aren’t wild about looking mom/dad in the eye and explaining stuff preferring that “…. Mr. Nobody from Nowhere with Nothing did “IT”…” whatever the particular IT happens to be….

Guys a cutie, a baby and already confounding the ~white coats~… he’s a little rebel <wg

Take it easy on yourself…. he’ll be fine, his ~mommy person~ loves him and will guarantee that!!!

New and with question

Tuesday, April 24th, 2007

Hello there everyone,
I joined this group a while ago but never got round to introducing myself, so
sorry and hello!
My name is Kate, I live in Bath, UK and I have been type 1 since I was 5 (I’m
now 29). My
gorgeous son Guy is now nearly 5 months old.
I got pregnant with an HBA1c of just above 8 but it was below 5.8% for the next
7 months.
My GP has referred Guy to a paediatrician because although he seems fine he
thinks that
there may be a problem ‘that he just can’t put his finger on’. Although he is
developing
normally he doesn’t always like eye contact and will turn his head away when you
try and look
in his eyes. My GP is a bit paranoid because I’m diabetic and he expected me to

Lee Iacocca helps joinleenow.org

Friday, April 20th, 2007

Just an update to those who have seen the recent commercials starring
Lee Iacocca for Chrysler. As you guys might remember from my
previous postings, I am a big believer in Lee Iacocca’s foundation
which supports Dr. Faustman who reversed Type 1 diabetes in mice.
Mr. Iacocca was asked to come back to do commercials for Chrylser and
instead of receiving any money for the ads, he asked them to
sponsor “joinleenow.org”. I am excited to tell everyone that we have
currently raised over $5 million towards the first $11 million needed
to start. Now, with Chrysler as a sponsor, I hope this will bring us
closer to the clinical trials which are already FDA approved.
Please check it out and there is a great video (approx. 7 minutes
long) that really expresses Mr. Iacocca’s goal and how the doctor
reversed type 1 diabetes.

A1C results but..

Friday, April 20th, 2007

Hi there,
As a few of you know from my previous postings, I am trying to get
ready to have a child. I did get my new A1C which was 6.8. Still
working on getting it lower before I try to concieve. But, there was a
surprise that I had high blood pressure this time around. I had 2
doctor’s appointments in a row and the first day it was 130/100 then
they took it again to make sure and it was 130/96. The next day I was
130/90. Since I am trying to have a child in the future, I know that
when you are pregnant, your blood pressure goes up also…So now, I am
looking for advice to help get this under control. The problem with
medication is that it can hurt a fetus. Any suggestions…??
Thanks for any advice, Evelyn :)

Aid to Paramedics

Thursday, April 19th, 2007

In the UK there is a scheme being operated by various caring agencies
which is free to the user. You are given a plastic tub with a lid on
it.Inside the tub is a form and you can put all your medical
details, next of kin,etc on it.The tub is kept in the door of your
fridge. With the tub comes two green cross stickers. One goes on the
inside wall where your front door opens and the other on the fridge
door.If there is an emergency the paramedics see the cross as they
enter and look for the other cross, then they can locate the tub and
read the details. If you are unconscious they then know what is likely
to be the cause and can save valuable minutes in treating you. This is a
really simple and clever idea and it works.

Accu-Chek Active Test Strips

Tuesday, April 17th, 2007

I have had a letter from Roche Diagnostics advising me to touch the
strip when I do blood tsts. The strips have impaired absorbtion on the
test area of the strip.Otherwise you will get false readings.
This may not apply to the strips that you buy but it does to the ones
dispensed in the UK.

My foot,an update

Sunday, April 15th, 2007

My Dr phoned me today and said my foot problem wasn’t osteomyelitis!
That is great news but when I asked him what was causing the lump, the
pain and the hot redness he didn’t know and advised me to wait and see!
Joan thinks it could be an abscess forming.I have not felt well today
and my blood sugars are not happy so there is something going on.

I was wondering

Friday, April 13th, 2007

I know as we are all here, or most of us, Insulin dependant Diabetics… what do you do when you are not feeling well… like with a Migraine, and really do not feel like eating? I know we should but sometimes I am just too nauseated to want to eat much, and afraid my Sugars will drop too low.
