My Latest A1c

Friday, July 27th, 2007

[INLINE]

is down from 6.8 to 6.5 due to me now being on Lantus, and I am sure, since I started working. I also upped my Lantus back to 50 units and have occassional, problems with Lows… but overall, I am feeling a lot better.

My doctor was quite Happy with the results of the A1c. She would like to see my Blood pressure drop a little more though, and doubled my Blood Pressure meds, and she also wants me to try and start loosing some weight. I have gained almost 20 pds. in a yr. It is since I started taking Insulin… I feel better, but have gained weight? Any suggestions? Most of the time, I eat less too.

Howard you said in a previous post that if you are a diabetic in the UK that
all meds are covered. What if you’re NOT a diabetic? Are your meds still
free?

Eat & Drive (tip of the day)

Saturday, July 21st, 2007

Hello Jen,

Who did this study (: 9 ? Its far too small a group to be able to extend those conclusions to the entire diabetic population but it does appear to indicate a meaningful challenge… the generic conclusion is much the basis of what Dr. Cox seems to be suggesting with his/her ASL emoticon Blood Glucose Awareness Training work…

Defacto, we cannot tell worth a darn where the numbers are within 50 points seems to be the view!!! If we’re only off by 25 points and our level is LOW to start with… those tiny points will make a serious difference!

You fed her what???

Friday, July 20th, 2007

Good Morning,

10 servings of carbs per day sounds about right, for a certain age group, and folks whom are extremely active. It would be 2 servings per meal, 1 between each (ie snack), and one to place at will. But less are likely more helpful especially if weight loss is the goal…

metabolic syndrome/Melissa

Wednesday, July 11th, 2007

Melissa this was a post from another group I belong to.
Is metabolic syndrome a real condition?
Diabetes groups question existence of heart-related disorder
LONDON - The world’s top two diabetes organizations have questioned
the existence of a medical condition widely cited by drug firms.
The American Diabetes Association and European Association for the
Study of Diabetes said in a joint statement on Thursday that
“metabolic syndrome” ? which has come to be seen as a predictor of
cardiovascular disease ? was poorly defined, inconsistently used and
in need of further research.
Doctors should not diagnose people with the “syndrome” or treat it as
a separate condition until the science behind it is clear, according
to a paper to be published in the September issue of Diabetes Care and
Diabetologia.

Have any of you ever been diagnosed with this? I would assume it would
be type 2s, but I was curious. I have 2 of the 5 symptoms, 3 are
required for a diagnosis. My doc is thinking I am headed this
direction, especially since one of the symptoms I don’t have yet is
blood sugar problems. I am almost paranoid about this. I know that the
docs always think T2 with me (31, not obese, but not as skinny as I
used to be, had gestational, grandfather diagnosed T2 at 83, and a T1
son), but even as a kid they thought many times that I was diabetic. I
have had hypos all my life, and at any given time when I check on my
son’s meter I have been from the 50’s to the 200+ range. Mind you, my
HgA1c is normal every year, and whenever the docs check my fasting, it
is on the edge of normal. Anyway, was just wondering if this is a
purely T2 syndrome, or if both types get it.
