sugar over 600

Monday, January 22nd, 2007

I just wanted to let everybody who is new to the pump know to never leave
your sight in for too long. I never learn. I left mine in for 5 days
instead of 3. My sugar was over 600. My machine only goes up to 600 then
it says HI. I remember somebody from my pump company telling me that the
body sees it as something foreign and doesn’t let the insulin go through.
Someday I’ll learn not to do this. Just a little tip.

SUPPLIES

Saturday, December 2nd, 2006

My friends Uncle die a few weeks ago and they gave me his left over
testing supplies from Liberty. There are over 300 testing strips and
Lancets and a used Monitor. I can’t use them but if anyone is
interested your welcome to them. I live in NJ if you’re near or if
you want to pay for shipping. Does anyone know if I’d be alowed to
ship them or is that illegal? I’d hate to throw them out.
E-mail me if you want them.

New Theory Places Origin of Diabetes in an Age of Icy Hardships
By SANDRA BLAKESLEE
When temperatures plummet, most people bundle up in thick sweaters,
stay cozy indoors and stoke up on comfort food. But a provocative
new theory suggests that thousands of years ago, juvenile diabetes
may have evolved as a way to stay warm.
People with the disease, also known as Type 1 diabetes, have
excessive amounts of sugar, or glucose, in their blood.
The theory argues that juvenile diabetes may have developed in
ancestral people who lived in Northern Europe about 12,000 years ago
when temperatures fell by 10 degrees Fahrenheit in just a few
decades and an ice age arrived virtually overnight.
Archaeological evidence suggests countless people froze to death,

trigger finger

Saturday, September 23rd, 2006

I got a cortisone shot for trigger finger. Oh…the joys of being a
diabetic…let me count the ways…Anyway, so far it’s not working. Does
anybody remember how long cortisone takes to start working? If it’s not
working in 5 weeks, he’ll give me another one. Then if that doesn’t work,
he’ll do the release. I don’t know why he just doesn’t do the release. I’m
going to end up having to have it anyway. My insurance must pay him well
for office visits. Thanks.

Nutrisystem

Tuesday, February 7th, 2006

Does anyone on the list have experience with Nutrisystem’s
Diabetes program? My Type 1 daughter has been on it for a
couple of weeks and is losing weight, but her blood sugars are
running sky high. The plan is technically designed for Type II’s,
but I’ve checked the carbohydrate listing for each item, and it
should work just fine for her. Any thoughts?

Cephalexin

Has anyone had any experience with the antibiotic Cephalxin? My Type 1
daughter is taking it for a small infection and her blood sugars have been high
all
week.

School Nurse

Thursday, January 20th, 2005

WOW, Stephanie my son starts public school in Sept. and I hope our
nurse is not like that.
Why do you have to tell her what Maddie’s morning readings are and
what she ate? Isn’t Maddie testing herself, shouldn’t supper nurse
just be overseeing her? I think you should give her a book and tell
her you appriciat her help but (correct me if I’m wrong) a nurse is
always supposed to follow Doctors orders not question them. She
should be telling you what Maddie’s readings are during the day by
note and Maddie should be bringing home whatever food she didn’t
finish(with the teachers help). In short she should answer to you
not the other way around!
I got a book from JDRF called Living with Juvenile Diabetes, A
practical guide for parents and caregivers, BY Victoria Peurrung
She is a mom of 2 typeI children, after you read it pass it along to
supper nurse. Soon you will be very comfortable with diabetes DON’T
