Gas Shortage?

Wednesday, June 20th, 2007

I wasn’t sure if I could manage this. My niece sent me this and I
thought I would share it, even though it doesn’t do with diabetes. I
also hope you people from other countries get the message.

This Should Help Explain It All…
A lot of folks can’t understand
how we came to have
an oil shortage here in our country.
~~~
Well, there’s a very simple answer.
~~~
Nobody bothered to check the oil.
~~~
We just didn’t know we were getting low.
On the pump!
Saturday, May 26th, 2007
Hi all,
My 14-year-old daughter, Lucy, just went on the pump 2 days ago. She
started with saline on Monday, then switched to insulin on
Wednesday. The first 2 days it went ok, though her numbers were a
little up and down. Then this morning she changed her site, and was
running high all day. Somehow, I hadn’t understood from the trainer
that if she was high after 2 boluses, that we should change out the
set. Anyway, I called the doctor this evening, who of course told me
that she needed to change out, and when she removed the set from
this morning, we saw the tiny catheter (Animas pump inset) was bent
and not inserted properly. She tried it again tonight, and 2 hours
later her meter said “HI” which it has never done before! She
removed the set and saw it was bent again. I gave her an injection
of Humalog and called Animas. They asked if Lucy had “pinched” her
skin to make it tight upon inserting the set (it has sort of a snap
Mint
Tuesday, December 19th, 2006
I just went to breakfast with some friends of mine and one is a type 2
diabetic. She mentioned that she read somewhere that diabetics are to
avoid mints. Has any one else heard this or would you know where this
idea came from? I hadn’t ever heard this and was just wondering.
fuzzy headed….can we take claritin?
Thursday, November 2nd, 2006
Hi, everyone,
My husband just polyurethaned a counter top in the kitchen. I was unaware it is oil based until my head starting to leak. Are we, as diabetics, able to take claritin? What does it do to our sugars?
I am thinking of sleeping in the tent tonight to avoid the fumes…. and headache and stuffiness and leaking.
Any info would be greatly appreciated!
Anyone seen? Love thoughts……..
Hm. Sounds interesting. Is there more on this available to us to read?
Thanks!
My daughter has had her first episode of DKA since her initial
diagnosis in Jan 2004. She’s been battling a flu/cold for 2 days,
and this morning her ketones were at “large” level. They’re back
down to small, and she’s drinking a lot of water, but even though
her blood sugar was also back down to 210 this morning, it has
steadily increased throughout the day. Just now it was 365! She’s 14
years old and normally keeps her blood sugar fairly stable, even
when sick. Her last A1C was 6.6. I don’t know if I should wake up
the endocrinologist again (there’s only one pediatric endo in
Vegas), or even take her to the hospital. Her ketones are still
at “small.” This morning the endo increased her insulin dosage by
quite a bit.
Please write to me directly at desertpoetess@… or respond on
the group. I don’t know whether to wait it out through the night and
call the doc in the morning…or maybe give her a couple more units
HELP please help, carb counting and insulin calculation
Tuesday, September 26th, 2006
Romm,
Every one is different when it comes to carb coverage. I use 1:15, or 1 unit for every 15 grams of carbs. As for the coverage of the glucose, I use 1 unit for every 50 points above 150 I want to lower it.
If I had your numbers, I would use 3 units to cover the carb intake, and 2 units to get my sugar down approximately 100 points to 140. Totalling, 5 units. HOWEVER, it also depends on when you took your last shot. Please speak with your diabetes specialist to determine where he/she thinks you are as far as carb coverage, and the base numbers where he/she wants you to be. This was just an example, and, as I said, all of us are very different.
